CHAPTER 25 - MEETING THE FAMILY
The Throne Room
Hades' Palace
The Underworld-Aerith-
Remember to breathe in and then breathe out. Everything's going to be okay, Aerith. Just chill.
Whew! It was hard to chill in a throne that was made of gold, in front of powerful gods and goddesses I had no idea actually existed until a few days ago, wearing a tiara that could probably feed an entire city when sold.
I closed my eyes and breathed in deep.
Thank gods I haven't fallen flat on my face yet or insulted someone with my lack of manners or stutter or say anything inappropriate. I made it through the wedding ceremony and the coronation ceremony in one piece.
This is not something I thought I'd say but the wedding and coronation ceremony actually felt... nice. If I'm being honest, it was actually perfect. Hades has outdone himself with all the planning. But more than that, it was because of how solemn and how intricate everything was.
I will never forget the way his eyes shone with pride when he crowned me queen. I don't even know why because I'm definitely no queen material. I'm sure I'll slip up with something huge at one time or another. And I think it would come sooner rather than later. But please gods, not today. Don't let me do anything stupid at least for another few hours.
If there was one thing I loved about this whole queen gig... it's my crown. It's so gorgeous! I thought that it would be heavy and uncomfortable but it was as light as a feather. It was gold and there were black stones around it. It matched the one Hades was wearing perfectly.
My thoughts were interrupted when Hades pulled my hand and steered me towards the crowd. "It's time you met my family," he whispered in my ear.
"What?!" I hissed. My palms began to feel sweaty and it got a little harder to breathe when we approached the gods and goddesses. Hades must've felt my tension because he squeezed my hand and laughed. "They're your family now too. No need to fear them."
"Right." I replied through gritted teeth and then forced a smile to my face.
"And you're immortal now, my queen. What's the worse they can do?" he added with that smirk I found so adorable it threw me off guard for a few seconds. And then his words sunk in.
It clearly was a joke but all sorts of scenarios from the Greek Myth stories that I've heard in class went through my head. I imagined I was Atlas and was forced to carry the world on my shoulders. I thought I was Prometheus and I was chained to a rock where an eagle fed on my liver.
Wow. These gods could be gruesome.
"This is Zeus but you've already met him. And this is Poseidon, the god of the seas and his wife Amphitrite," Hades said pointing towards a man with a short beard and mustache.
The moment we got closer to him, I smelt the sea breeze and heard the roar of the oceans. The woman beside him was so beautiful. She was wearing an ocean blue gown whose skirts fell in waves. When she walked, the patterns swirled and it was like watching the seas on a calm day.
"Er. H-hi." Those were the only words I could manage.
They laughed and I felt my face burn. Hades wrapped an arm across my waist and pulled me closer towards him.
