CHAPTER 22 - OLD, BLUE, BORROWED
Aerith's Bedroom Hades' Palace The Underworld
-Aerith-
Soft hands gently shook me awake. I rolled over and groaned but the shaking became more insistent. A few seconds later and it was followed by really loud and persistent coughing. Finally, I opened my eyes.
"Your highness! You overslept and it is late!" Ruby exclaimed. Beside her, Amethyst and Sapphire were pacing and wringing their hands.
"What time is it?" I mumbled.
"It's past noon!" Ruby answered and then opened all the shutters on my room. I covered my eyes as sunlight flooded the room. I picked up my pillow and used it to cover my face as I sprawled on the bed again. "Highness! This is not the time for this! We have to prepare you for the wedding!" she exclaimed.
Quick as a flash, I sat up. It made my head spin but it was already spinning because of the word wedding. How could I forget that today was my wedding day? How could I have overslept?! How could I sleep at all in the first place?
"Eat first. You may not get the chance to eat anything later," Amethyst ordered. She opened the door and a servant bearing a tray for my lunch entered. The first thing I saw on the tray was a rose made up of gems. It was just like the one that Hades gave me on my first day here but this one had a different color.
I picked it up and inspected it with a smile on my face. It has been a long time since I received one of these! It was really sweet and romantic of him. I noticed a note wrapped on the stem of the rose and I opened it.
