"I think I'm having ear problems right now. Did I just hear you mention that you purchased a new property in the woods!?" Sarah asked.

"Of course, you heard me right," Adrian replied.

"Who in their right state of mind would purchase a property in the woods after the cycle of deaths that have been taking place over there in the past few months?" Sarah yelled.

Adrian tilted his head towards Sarah and gave her a smile. "That's the thing, love. I'm not in the right state of mind."

"You're insane!" Sarah shouted as she tried to escape from the car but the door wouldn't budge. It was locked, and she pulled on it frantically screaming for help.

"What the fuck!" Adrian yelled as he slammed on the brakes. "Sarah, I'm just joking with you. I didn't know you would take it seriously." He called to her as he tried to calm her down.

"You're an asshole!" Sarah barked at him.

"Yeah, I deserve that," Adrian mumbled.

"Why would you play such a sick joke on me?" Sarah asked curiously. She was mad at him and still had doubts on if he was joking or actually meant what he had just told her.

"If I had known you would react this way, I wouldn't have done it. It was just meant to be a harmless joke," Adrian replied as he turned his body fully towards Sarah and captured her hand in his, but he could see that she was scared, she had taken his joke too seriously, and he couldn't help but wonder why it had affected her so badly.

Adrian knew about the deaths in the woods. It was stale news in the town and the folks were already warned by the authorities to keep a respectful distance away from the woods. He was sure Sarah was aware of that which made him bothered as to why she couldn't figure out that he was joking.

He has been observant of her behaviour since the death rate in the town started increasing. He noticed how agitated and frightened she was but passed it off as a normal thing, but he was certain that there was more to her behaviour than she was letting on.

"I'm really sorry if I scared you. I thought you would know I was joking," he apologized.

"If it was a joke, then tell me where we are headed right this instant," Sarah demanded.

"Okay, vixen. I would tell you where we are headed so you don't go jumping out of a moving car just at the slightest joke that's made towards you," Adrian laughed.

Sarah glared at him for trying to laugh at her stupid attempt of an escape. "I wasn't trying to jump out of the car. I-i was just --"

"Trying to open the door and leave the car," Adrian offered.

"Yes, I was just leav-, oh no, you did not just fool me again," Sarah shouted as she realized that she had just agreed to what she was trying to deny. She turned towards Adrian and smacked him on his arms making him burst into laughter at her pathetic excuse of trying to scold him.

"I'm really sorry for pulling such a prank on you," Adrian apologized again as he started the car and continued on their drive.

"It's no problem. Just give me a heads up whenever you intend on pulling such a prank," Sarah replied, stressing each word.

"No problem, my lady. Your wish is my command," Adrian answered back with a fake British accent.

Sarah couldn't help but laugh at his terrible attempt of faking a British accent as he continued ranting on different words towards her.

After driving for about fifteen minutes, they arrived at a tall building. Sarah was confused as to why he brought her there and asked him what kind of building it was, to which he simply replied that it wasn't important.

Sarah wasn't sure on following him inside the building, but instead of saying anything, she just went along with it.

If I get a bad vibe, then I'll just kick him in the nuts and flee, she chanted to herself.

They walked up to the entrance of the building and were greeted by the security guy standing there. "Hello, Mr Walker."

"Lucas," Adrian said while giving him a smile as they both shook hands and engaged in a small exchange of pleasantries before he turned towards Sarah and ushered her into the building.

Inside the empty building, Adrian held her hand and led her to the elevator.

"Okay, really, where are we going?" Sarah asked, forcing a laugh when actually, she was already getting nervous.

"Trust me, Sarah. You're going to love it."

Ha, Trust him! Someone who can't tell me about his whereabouts!? I would rather trust a junkie on the corner telling me the world is about to come to an end than you, Sarah thought to herself.

Adrian gave her hand a firm squeezes as they got on the elevator and the doors closed. Silence fell between them, but on Adrian's face, there was a satisfactory smile. She could only wonder what he had up his sleeve...

Am I the only one who thinks Adrian's behaviour is highly suspicious?
