The rest of the week went by in a blur. Rebecca still tried to annoy us, but Miles and I handled her like pros. Tonight, I was sleeping over at Miles' house, and I couldn't wait to see Flora again.
—
Ding dong! I rang the doorbell and bounced on my heels, too excited to stand still.
"Oh, hey Y/n," Ms Grose greeted warmly.
"Hello, Ms Grose! Good to see you," I said, giving her a quick hug.
"Come in, dear. Miles has been waiting for you," she said, smiling.
"Where might I find him?"
"In his room, playing guitar," she replied.
I practically ran down the hall and knocked on his door.
"Come in," Miles called.
"Hey," I said, smiling.
"Y/n! I missed you!" he said, pulling me into a tight hug.
"We saw each other on Friday," I laughed.
"Too long," he replied, laughing along.
"Horse riding tomorrow?" I suggested.
"Tomorrow," he said, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"Mmm, okay," I said, resting my head against his chest.
The phone rang, and we both groaned.
"Ugh, curse that phone!" I muttered.
"I'll get it!" Ms Grose shouted from the kitchen.
Miles looked down at me and smiled. "I love you."
"I love you more," I replied, grinning.
"Always?" he asked, brushing a strand of hair from my face.
"Always and forever," I said, giggling. He kissed the tip of my nose, making me laugh.
"What do you want to do now?" he asked.
"How about a cuddle and a movie?" I suggested.
"Perfect," he said, taking my hand and leading me to the lounge.
"Y/n!!!" a small voice shouted.
I turned to see Flora running toward me. "Flora!" I said, scooping her up in a big hug.
"I missed you!" she exclaimed.
"I missed you more," I said, letting her wiggle free. She had grown so much!
"Ms Grose and Miles said the same thing," Flora said proudly.
"Well, they're right," I replied with a smile.
She ran off down the hallway, and I felt Miles' hands slide around my waist.
"Movie time," he said, kissing my lips lightly.
We ended up watching two of the Scream movies, me curled up against him, slowly drifting off to sleep.
⸻
I woke to see Miles sleeping on my stomach, his head resting softly. I played with his hair, admiring his peaceful features. How did I get so lucky?
"Hey," I whispered.
"Mmm... morning," he mumbled, stretching.
"How'd you sleep?" he asked.
"Average. You?" I replied.
"Same. I'm hungry."
"Same. Let's go eat," I said, and we made our way to the kitchen.
After breakfast, I took a long, warm shower. The water felt amazing, washing away the stress of the week. When I stepped out, wrapped in a towel, Miles appeared in the doorway.
"You scared me!" I laughed.
"Sorry," he said, smirking.
"It's fine," I said.
"Can I...?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Sure," I laughed, and we ended up standing together under the warm spray for a few moments, hugging and laughing, enjoying just being close. No words needed—being near him was enough.
"Ready to get dressed and start the day?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said, grinning. "But I wouldn't mind a few more minutes."
I laughed, shaking my head. "Maybe later. Let's get breakfast first."
