I wake up the next day sprawled on top of a still-sleeping Miles. Smiling to myself, I press a soft kiss to the top of his head before carefully slipping out of bed. I head back to my room to get dressed, then go in search of Flora.

"Morning!!" a little voice shouts from behind me.

"Well, good morning, Miss Flora," I laugh, pulling her into a hug. "Someone's in a great mood."

"Yup! Today I'm gonna show you the koi pond," she giggles.

"That sounds fun," I smile. "But first—breakfast."

We race to the kitchen.

"Morning, dearie. Peanut butter toast?" Miss Grose asks.

"Mmm, yes please," I reply.

"So, is the koi pond your favourite part of the garden?" I ask Flora as we sit down.

"Yup! I can't wait to show you my favourite orange fish," she beams. "I'm gonna show Kate too!"

Great... how exciting, I think.

"Morning," Kate says, walking in.

"Hi, Kate!" Flora chirps.

"Hey, Flora," Kate replies, clearly forcing a smile.

"Breakfast, Kate?" Miss Grose asks.

"Yes, please. Just jam on toast," she says.

"Morning," Miles says as he enters.

"Hey," I smile at him.

"The usual, Miles?" Miss Grose asks.

"Uh, no thanks. I'm not really hungry," he replies.

After breakfast, we head out to get the horses. Miles and I ride Samson together, while Kate and Flora take the white horse.

When we reach the koi pond, Flora skips around happily while Miles and I walk beside each other, fingers intertwined.

"Oh no!!" Flora suddenly cries out.

She runs toward a fish lying on the ground, a crow pecking at it.

"Get off her!" Miles yells, charging forward and shooing the bird away.

Before anyone can stop him, Miles steps on the fish, ending its suffering.

Flora turns and throws her arms around me, clinging tightly.

"Miles!" Kate shouts.

"Nothing should have to suffer," Miles says firmly.

"Wha—" Kate stutters.

"He's right," I say quietly as Flora pulls away.

"Let's go," Flora sniffles before running off.

I nod, taking Miles' hand, and we ride back to the house together.

Once inside, Miles and I head to my room.

"So," I ask, turning to him, "what do you want to do now?"

"Well... there is one thing," Miles says, stepping closer.

"Oh yeah?" I ask, looping my arms around his neck. "And what would that be?"
