Immediately, I rang Alice and begged her to come over. I didn't even hang up properly before the tears started again.
When she arrived, I handed her the test without a word. We both stood there, staring at it like it might suddenly change its mind.
It didn't.
"What are we gonna do?" she asked softly.
"I have to get rid of it," I said, my voice flat but firm.
"Really?" she asked, searching my face.
"Yes," I nodded.
"How?" she asked quietly.
I didn't answer. I just pointed to the empty vodka bottle sitting on my bathroom counter.
Her eyes widened. "Y/n..."
"I don't know what else to do," I said, my voice cracking. "I can't have a child. I don't want one. I've got too much going on in my life right now, and I definitely don't have the money. I can barely hold myself together most days."
She didn't interrupt me. She just listened.
"We'll call the clinics first thing tomorrow morning," I sighed. "If the alcohol hasn't gotten rid of it... then the clinic will."
Alice stepped closer and placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "If this is what you want, I'll support you. No matter what."
"Thank you," I said, trying—and failing—to smile.
Miles was gone. I didn't know where he was, and honestly, I didn't think I could keep doing this with him. Rebecca was getting under my skin, twisting everything, and now she was wedged right between us.
"Where is Miles?" Alice asked carefully.
"He left after I showed him the test," I sighed. "He doesn't know I know, but Rebecca called him. He walked out of the room to answer her call."
Alice's face darkened instantly. "You're joking."
"I wish I was."
"How can something like this not be more important than fucking Rebecca?" she snapped, pacing the room.
"I honestly don't know," I muttered, my voice breaking as I tried to hold the tears back.
"You know what," Alice said suddenly.
"What?" I asked, looking up.
"Let's go say hi to a certain Rebecca."
A sharp grin crossed her face. I downed a glass of water, swallowed two ibuprofen, and within minutes we were in Alice's car, speeding toward Rebecca's house.
—
The moment we pulled up, a chill ran straight through me.
"You okay?" Alice asked, glancing at me.
"Yeah," I lied. "I just... I've got a really bad feeling."
"Are you and Miles even together anymore?" she asked gently.
"I honestly don't know," I admitted. "I basically dumped him, then he said he'd support me because I'm pregnant... and then he left me for another girl. So."
Alice sighed. "Yeah... that's messier than I thought."
"Let's just get this over with," I said, opening the car door.
We walked up to the front door. I hesitated, my hand hovering in the air—until Alice knocked for me.
"Everything's gonna be fine," she said. "Trust me."
I nodded.
Rebecca opened the door, her expression instantly defensive. "Can I help you?"
"Yeah, actually," I said coldly.
"We know you're sneaking around with Miles, you dirty little bitch," Alice snapped. "Did you really think we wouldn't find out?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Rebecca replied smoothly.
"Who is it?" a male voice called from inside the house.
"No one! Just hold on," Rebecca shouted back.
"Miles?" I yelled.
"Who is that?" the voice demanded.
Without hesitation, I pushed past Rebecca and stormed into the house, following the sound of his voice.
And there he was.
Sitting on her sofa.
"Miles?" I whispered, tears spilling down my cheeks.
The room went silent.
And in that moment, everything inside me broke.
