Who Sent The Dead Among Us?

Night was falling, and with it the weather got cooler.

" we should camp soon, they'll be out in a couple hours or so," Austin stated to Andrew as we trudged up a grassy hill. My cousin nodded. I sighed with relief , we've been walking for three days to nowhere in particular. We only got into one fight with the undead in the time and I was grateful, but I was tired of walking.

" hey!" Jasper called out from ahead of the rest us. " I see a little cave we could take shelter in"

We hurried and unpacked; all of us eager to rest and eat. But as I sat down on the cold rocky floor I saw a few faded footprints. It seemed old though so I didn't tell anyone.

" this is so good" I declared as I munched hungrily into a rabbit leg. I never ate meat when I could help it at home when it was normal but now it was so awesome. And it was hard to get in this mountainous plain we were traveling through.

" we should play a game to get us to know each other better," Jasper said. " because although we have been traveling buddies for a few days now, I don't know anything about any of you except for Andy,"

" sure how about you ask each of us a question and we will answer as truthfully as we can," I said.

" how old are you guys,?" he asked.

" 16" I replied

" 17 " Austin said after me.

" would you save a poor defenseless girl even if it meant risking your own life?"

" Ofcourse!" I exclaimed.

" Ofcourse not," Austin looked us all in the eyes. And I shivered slightly it was so intense. " I wouldn't give my life for some girl I don't know, and if she was defenseless then shed probably die even after I'd save her," I really admired him, most people would be scared of seeming heartless but Austin wasn't shy at telling us his thoughts.

Jasper nodded curtly at his answer seeming impressed. As he should. " who would you save if you were going to die anyway,"

" hmm" Austin answered first this time. " I would save Karina," his sharp gaze burned into mine and I found myself blushing, something I don't usually do. " and i wouldn't have to be dying to save her," I was about to answer but I didn't have a chance, a bloodcurdling scream pierced my mind. What the hell??? That sounded like....

" Karina! Austin help me!" she yelled desperately.

I dashed outside, not believing what I heard. Please let it not be her. Oh God please not her. It was her, and she was sobbing and running toward me and the others. Damn.

" Shit Alyssa! Get down." I grabbed my bat and swung it at the rotting head that was closest to her. It smashed and I sighed as the slimy blood splattered on me, I helped Alyssa up and into the cave as my team finished up outside. I handed her some water and she downed it gratefully.

" thanks" she whispered. I shook my head so confused, what the heck was she doing here?

" karina! Help, there's too many" I rushed out at Andys voice and I let out a cry of shock. There were at least fifty of them. I ran to help when I heard a galloping noise.

" head back into the cave! We got this people," two men on horses were galloping to us and we hastily obeyed his order.

As we got in there was a huge booming noise. The series of blasting noises continued. We watched the two people blow up the zombies and I almost threw up as blood and heads flew up into the air.

" that was unpleasant," the older of the two said as he walked into the cave where we stood.

" thanks for helping us" Andrew told him and the rest of us nodded.

" that was nothing, but if you have some food we would really appreciate it." the younger one said.

So we all sat around a fire and watched as they ate the rest of our meat with gusto. They deserved it.

" I'm Karina," I said " this is Austin, Andrew Jasper, and Alyssa,"

They nodded and smiled. " I'm 22 and my names Nick,"

" I'm just 15 and you can call me Matt" the younger said to us, " nick and I just met up a week ago,"

" I see," Jasper murmured, " well that was some impressive bombs you had there,"

" thanks" Matt grinned, " it's my specialty,"

We talked some more but we were tired, so we set up our sleeping bags.

" how are you here alyssa?" I whispered as the others slept,

" I followed you guys, but you never saw me," she whispered back. " please don't be mad,"

" well I'm impressed you're still alive but we don't like that you're here, you almost got us killed today if it weren't for the newcomers,"

" I'm sorry" she said timidly,

" yeah whatever, I doubt you truly are,"
