Calum

“I just want to warn you, we aren’t on the best of terms.” You told Calum as you walked up to the front door of your dad’s house. Your parents spilt up a few years ago you and your dad had a falling out when he left. Calum has met your mom and she loves him, and he insisted on meeting your dad.

“Babe he’s your dad I’m sure it can’t be that bad.”  Calum reassured. He knocked on the door and you held your breath as the door opened.

“Hey (Y/N).” Your dad greeted you and the two of you shared an awkward hug.

“Hello sir, I’m Calum.” Calum held out his hand to shake your fathers.

“Oh, I forgot you were coming too.” Your father said, turning without shaking his hand. You looked at Calum and apologized, embarrassed by your father.

“Hey don’t worry about it okay?”  Calum gave your hand a small squeeze as you two stepped inside. The two of you followed your dad to the dining room.

“I hope you still like chicken.” Your dad said as all of you sat down.

“This looks so good sir.” Calum complimented.

“You don’t have to try so hard son.” Your father commented.

“Dad, really?” You said harshly. You couldn’t believe that he was being so rude. Calum was smiling but you knew he was hurting on the inside, he wanted your parents to like him.

“What? I thought this was going to be a night with just us?” Your father said.

“I told you he was coming it’s not my fault you don’t listen to me. Come on Calum we’re leaving.” You stood up from your chair but Calum grabbed your hand and remained sitting.

“(Y/N) it’s okay, really. You should stay and I’ll pick you up later okay?” Calum got up and turned to leave.

“Bye son, wish I could say it was nice meeting you.” You father remarked as Calum walked towards the door.

“Could you stop being an ass for even a minute?!” You screamed. Calum stopped and walked back to you, putting his arm around your shoulders.

“Maybe if you brought home a decent guy I wouldn’t have to be. All those stupid tattoos, and the blonde in your hair, son are you going through a rebellious phase or something?”

“You didn’t even take the time to get to know him so how would you know what kind of guy he is?” You were now furious with him.

“Sir, I’m sorry you don’t like the way I look but I hope you understand that I treat your daughter with respect and I love her. That should be what’s important.” Calum tried to reason with him.

“Calum? Is it? I don’t need you to tell me what’s important.” Your father was now yelling.

“Dad you are unbelievable. Calum is the best thing that has happened to me and he’s not going anywhere. I hope you can understand that one day.” You headed towards the door with Calum right behind you. The two of you were out the door when you heard your father come up behind you.

“(Y/N), Calum, I’m sorry, I was just looking forward to a night just the two of us and I overreacted.”  He placed a hand on your shoulder but you shrugged him off.

“Maybe some other night, right now I’m going home with Calum.” You said before getting in the car with Calum.

Luke

You and Luke were going to your dad’s house for dinner. After your parent’s divorce you and your dad kept in touch but he can be very judgmental sometimes so you were worried about him meeting Luke. Luke gave you a kiss on the cheek before you opened the door and there was no turning back.

“My little girl, how are you?” Your dad asked as he opened his arms and you mumbled a reply as you hugged.

“Hi sir I’m Luke.” He reached out and shook your father’s hand.

“Nice to meet you, well come on kids let’s eat.” He led the two of you to the dining room and gestured for you guys to sit down.

“So Luke how’s that band of yours going?” The second these words left your father’s mouth you thought here we go.

“It’s going great, we’re doing really well.” Luke answered.

“But you’re going to get a real job soon right?” Your father questioned.

“Dad.” You said sternly trying to get him to change the subject.

“The band is my job sir, it provides for me and someday it will provide for (Y/N) and I both.” You blushed as Luke smiled at you.

“That’s a nice idea son, but music is a dying industry, that’s no way to make a living. Especially not if you plan on marrying my daughter and staring a family.”  Your father’s words were harsh and Luke tried to stay calm.

“Dad, this is not necessary.” You tried to get him to change the subject again.

“It’s okay (Y/N). Sir I understand your concern but I assure you I will always provide for her.” Luke grabbed your hand as he spoke to your father.

“We’ll see about that. Besides you’d need my blessing and I’m not sure I could give it to you.”

“Dad! What is wrong with you?!” You were tired of listening to your father give Luke a hard time.

“Honey he has no future! He thinks he’s going to be in a band forever! I’m just thinking of you.” Your father was now out of his chair yelling across the table.

“We’re leaving.” You said standing up from the table and grabbing Luke’s hand.

“Sir I’m sorry that you don’t see what I do as a career, but it is and it will provide for us in the future.” Luke said before the two of you walked out of the house and towards the car.

“Luke I’m sorry about my dad.” You apologized.

“Babe don’t be, he’s just looking out for you. I respect that, I love you.” Luke kissed you before opening your car door.

“I love you too Luke.” You replied.
