"Today is the day!"
It was a sunny Tuesday morning in Japan. I was tying my hair up in a ponytail with a red ribbon that Tanjirou gave me as a gift, for when we went to the mall a couple months back. Looking at the clock sitting on my shelf it read 7 am. Yeah, it was early but today is a very special day for someone dearly special to me.
My phone started ringing as soon as I finished tying my hair up.
"It must be Giyuu," I stated as I picked up my phone and answered. "Hello."
"(Y/N), good morning I'm glad you're awake," Giyuu's voice said from the other line but I could hear a tint of excitement in his voice.
"Haha of course! Today is a special day for him after all," I blushed at the thought of seeing Tanjirou for his birthday today. We all agreed to make him a surprise party, so we all pretended as if not knowing his birthday is today.
Yeah it might be harsh even I denied it at first because I didn't want to see him pained, but of course everyone kept pestering me. Mostly Mitsuri she kept on saying how it'll be a great surprise for Tanjirou and how there would be a surprise within the surprise itself. I wasn't sure what she meant, but at the end I agreed with everyone.
"Alright (Y/N) I'll see you in the park with everyone else in the next hour then. Don't forget to wear something special. Goodbye."
"See you there Giyuu! Byeeee!" Hanging up the call I stood up to go look at myself in the mirror. Just yesterday I went shopping with Mitsuri.. she really wanted me to buy a new outfit for today.
I told her I didn't want something too fancy.. simple would be enough for this day. So she chose me a black long sleeve shirt along with a strap red skirt. She knew my style perfectly and I fell in love with these clothes.
"Miss (Y/N), it's now 7:40 am I think you should start heading out." One of my maids said and I looked back and was shocked to see the time.
"Oh my god I'm going to be late?! Not again!!" I quickly started for the door. "Thank you, you guys don't have to wait for me I will be back around 10 at night! Byeeeee!!" I screamed out as I opened the front door and sprinted out to the walkway.
We all decided to have a picnic at the public park. It wasn't much, but since it was also the week for the fair, we would be going there after we finished eating and spend the whole day there together.
Catching the nearest bus stop I was now making my way to the park. Honestly, I could've just asked for a ride from one of my servants, but I didn't like that at all, plus public transportation in Japan is really nice. Not many pay attention at the beautiful views we pass by.
The park was a 10 minute drive away looking at the time at my phone it read 7:58 am as I got off from the bus.
I let out a relieved sigh, "Phew I'm glad I'm not late..."
"(Y/N), almost late once again huh?" A voice said from behind. Startled I looked back and was now faced to faced with Inosuke.
"ACKKK!" I jumped back, "Inosuke!! Please don't do that for gods sake..!" Inosuke just let out a hurled laugh and started walking through the entrance.
Walking behind him I could see the others not too far in the distant, "HEY GUYS!!" I waved and started running towards them.
"(Y/N)!!!" Mitsuri was the first one to greet me. She was wearing casual clothes and was blushing like crazy when she saw me. "OMG OMG OMG
(Y/N) YOU'RE SO CUTEEEEE!!" She pulled me into a humongous bear hug and I almost ran out of hair. She was very strong actually.. so strong.. memories from the past started flowing but I quickly cut them off before I started getting another bad headache.
"Thank you Mitsuri! It's all thanks to you of course," I laughed and went to greet the others. Everyone was busy preparing for the surprise. The sun was now shining brightly and the heat started picking up as well. Everyone was excited even Giyuu who put on a smile from time to time.
"So.. w-what is the plan exactly?" Zenitsu said as he set down plates on the table. "I have yet to hear..."
He was acting more scared and worried than usual, "Well.. Nezuko said to leave it to her so I'm relying on her," I responded.
"N-Nezuko?!" Zenitsu suddenly lit up even brighter that the sun and continued doing his part in a faster pace.
'Whoa.. just saying Nezuko in front of him sets him off,' I thought to myself. Even though Nezuko was a year younger than Zenistu I could tell she liked him.. it must be nice. I frowned.. thinking back to what Giyuu told me last time. Tanjirou.. he has yet to remember anything from the past, meaning he doesn't even remember me nor our past relationship. Even though it hurt, I wasn't going to let myself get down from this.. well I'm trying.
"(Y/N)!" Rengoku was standing besides me and was now helping me, "Thoughts getting the best of you again?"
"Ahh yeah.. I'm sorry Rengoku," I stumbled with my own words but we still managed to finish my part together.
"(Y/N).." Rengoku faces me and gave me a bright flamed smile, "Everyone here knows it's hard for you, but we're all routing for you! So don't you dare look down or even be down, because you're back with us once again!!"
I let out a small laugh, Rengoku really has a way with words. "Thank you Rengoku and thank you everyone. You're all very supportive."
"AHHH EVERYONE GET READY THEY'RE COMING!! NEZUKO JUST MESSAGED ME!!!!" Zenitsu suddenly screamed out and started running around trying to find a hiding place.
This set everyone off as well.. before I even knew it I was pulled by Giyuu behind the table. Everything was going so fast yet I was seeing everything in slow motion. My heart was now beating a thousand times faster than before. I was happy. Excited. I couldn't wait to see what Tanjirou's expression would be.
"They're coming I can hear them..." Zenistu whispered. He was hiding behind the tree that was behind us and I sucked up a laugh.
"Nezuko where exactly are you taking me..? And why did you put a blindfold on my eyes when we got off the bus..? I thought we were going to eat at a restaurant for my birthday since no one remembered..." I could already hear pain in his own voice before seeing it. I was anxious to already tell him surprise!
"Calm down big brother! Just like your past birthdays, I've prepared a surprise for you!" Nezuko squealed happily.
Even though I could hear them from the distant I had to hold in my excitement since I didn't get the cue yet.
"Ready.." Giyuu started counting down giving everyone the cue to get ready. "3... 2.. 1. GO!"
Everything happened in an instant. Nezuko taking off her brother's blindfold. Me jumping out to say surprise along with everyone else. It was all perfect.. but not when I accidentally tripped on a branch and I started falling down. I wasn't expecting for Tanjirou to literally be in front of me..
"AHHH—," I landed on Tanjirou's soft chest and he quickly grabbed me in his arms. 'Warm...' Was my first thought then memories once again started going through my mind. "T-TANJIROU!"
"(Y/N)..!" His soft voice said my name as he kept holding me. "What a surprise.. you're really cute in that you know."
"I-I'M SORRY!" Tanjirou let go of me as I got back up fixing my composure.
"It's alright (Y/N)," he gave me a smile.. the smile that always made me feel so happy inside. "I really wasn't expecting this.. thank you everyone."
"NEZUKOOOOO CHANNNNNN!" Zenitsu squealed out breaking the tension between us all as he started running towards her.
"AHH!" Nezuko being completely shocked grabbed onto her brother's right arm. Zenitsu who didn't get the cue ran and gave a huge hug to Tanjirou's left arm.
"ZENITSU YOU IDIOT!" Inosuke huffed out angrily and went to pry Zenistu off of Tanjirou.
Tanjirou suddenly started laughing which made Zenistu and Inosuke stop what they were doing and stared at him.
"Tanjirou?" Inosuke said rather confused.
"It's just I'm really happy to be with you all... especially with (Y/N) being here as well." He said happily which made everyone smile.
"Happy birthday my boy!" Rengoku said, "We have a long day of just fun awaiting us so let's eat!!"
With that we all settled down on the picnic table to eat. Did I mention we had to pull in another table because our group was so huge?
Seemed like Rengoku and Giyuu were both settled on buying the food, but I wasn't surprised that the food that Rengoku brought was sweet potatoes and from Giyuu, simmered salmon with daikon. They practically brought their own favorite food to share with everyone...
"I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN SO I BROUGHT THIS!" Mitsuri said rather excitedly and then pulled out a huge food tray of rice balls. "I prepared plum seaweed flavored rice balls for everyone, but mostly for Tanjirou because it's his favorite!"
"Ahhh!" Tanjirou said with a bright smile on his face, "Thank you Mitsuri!!" He went to grab a rice ball and dug right in happily.
The next two hours was just filled with eating, talking, and a lot of laughter. Giyuu was eating his salmon with daikon rather fast that he started choking and everyone sprang into action. When Giyuu was finally okay he apologized for being too excited making everyone snicker and laugh.
I was sitting next to Tanjirou and he kept on talking with me. He kept saying how happy he was that I'm here celebrating his birthday with him and everyone else. Once in a while Zenistu would tease Tanjirou saying me and Giyuu were helping each other earlier which made him blush and look very angry and Zenistu. I just laughed which caught him off guard and just smiled as he saw me laugh.
It was really nice.. being with everyone else and not to worrying about demons coming out of nowhere. The fresh air blowing at us as we ate happily in the park. Mitsuri and Obanai were feeding each other and Muichiro was looking at the sky as he ate his rice ball. Inosuke and Zenistu were having an argument and Nezuko was trying to calm them down. Rengoku was happily eating his sweet potatoes and kept screaming out "DELICIOUS" every time he took a bite. Giyuu.. he was smiling like crazy as he once again continued eating his salmon and daikon.
Looking back at Tanjirou he seemed so happy eating his rice balls as well. I smiled and ate mines, I never felt so happy in my life before..
