Jel walked through the entryway into another corridor. He could hear the screeching of the Hive echoing from other parts of the fortress.

He hoped Kel and Garter were okay.

He saw a huge stone hanging in the air. He walked underneath it without a second thought, until he heard a low humming sound. He turned around and looked up and saw that the stone wasn't a stone at all.

It was a Hive shrieker.

And it was awake.

Jel opened fire on the Shrieker as it's shell began to spin, faster and faster, until a stream of purple energy blasts flew out of it and flew towards Jel.

He turned and ran, as the blasts exploded against the ground right behind him.  He slid across the ground into a crevice.

He peeked up and saw the shrieker looking at him, its glowing purple eye watching, waiting for him to make a move.

He looked behind him and saw the door out about thirty feet away.  He knew he wouldn't be able to run fast enough to make it.

He noticed a metal object at the other end of the crevice.  He crouched and slowly made his way over to it.  He grinned under his helmet when he saw what it was.

It was a sniper rifle, rusted but functional.  Jel didn't know how it got there but he didn't care.  He grabbed it, stood up, and aimed it at the shrieker's eye.  He stood there for a second, then fired.

A deafening bang sounded around the room as the shreiker's eye exploded, in a violet energy blast.

Jel threw the rifle to the side and sprinted out the door.
