"Come on! Let's go!" My mother screams from the bottom of the stairs. "We are running late!"

I pull the brush through my hair one last time and look at myself in the mirrior. I can't believe it! I am going to Hogwarts. Just a couple months ago I had no idea magic existed. Now look at me. About to enter my first yearat the best wizarding school in the world.

My bright, blue eyes stare back at me in the mirrior. Strands of my dark brown hair fell in front of my hair, but I quickly push them back. I hate when my hair gets in my face. My pale skin shows a few freckles on my cheeks.

I turn and grab Phoebe's cage, with Pheobe in it, off of my bed. She chirps as I take her down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"I'm ready" I say confidently.

"Well than let's get going! Kings Cross Station isn't too far away." Says my mom.

I skip into the car with Phoebe in my arms.

"Bye mom and dad. I'll miss you. I will write to you as soon as I can." I say, holding back my tears.

"Oh Alex. We will miss you." My mom replied, embracing me is giant hug.

I head onto the train with my trunk and owl cage. I search everywhere for an empty compartment, but there are none. They are all full except for one. It had two boys in it. One had very untidy black hair and glasses, with a very peculiar scar on his forehead. The other had bright red hair and a scrawny build. I recognized him as Ron Weasley, the boy I was with at Diagon Alley.

"Oh hey Alex, you can come in if you want." Ron says.

I step into the compartment awkwardly, smiling slightly at the boys.

"Harry, this is Alex. Alex, this is Harry." Ron introduces us.

Now I know who he is! This is Harry Potter! The boy who defeated Lord Voldemort! Before I can say anything about it, I bite my tongue.

"Nice to meet you Harry." I say politely.

"You too." Harry says, looking at me funny.

I look at my reflection in the window to see if I had something on my face. Nothing. I smile and sit down next to Ron.

After a long, awkward silence, Ron finally says something.

"So, Alex. What house do you want to be in?." He says.

"Well I think I want to be in either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw." I say. "It's what my parents were in."

"Ah, yes. I wouldn't want to be in Ravenclaw if I were you. They are all stuck up." Ron explains.

"Not all of them!" I defend my mother.

"Well, I'm hoping to be in Gryffindor, it's where everyone in my family has been." Ron says, brushing off my comment. "I definitely do not want to be in Slytherin, everyone seems evil there." Ron scrunches up his nose.

"Oh, we'll see I guess." Harry says, trying to break the tension between Ron and I.

"Have any of you seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one." A girl with bushy, brown hair suddenly appears.

"No," I reply as the boys shake their heads. "I'm Alex Curtis."

The girl greets me warmly and sits down in the compartment. "Wow, you're Harry Potter, aren't you? I'm Hermione Granger." She says. Harry nods, and Hermione turns to face Ron. "And you are?" She asks him.
