"Mmmm, this is so good." Ron stuffs his face with the delicious food.
"Do you have to be such a pig?" I ask, scrunching up my nose in disgust.
Ron glares at me and sets down his fork slowly. "Maybe."
I sigh as I finish my plate of food. I can't eat any more, I'm stuffed. I take the chance to study the teachers as everyone eats. I see a very frail-looking man wearing a purple turban talking to a very greasy man next to him.
"Hey George, who's that teacher with the greasy hair?" I ask.
"Oh, that's Snape. He's the potions master, but everyone knows he's been after the defense job for years." George says carelessly.
I nod and peek at the rest of the teachers. Some are strange, looking very stern, like Professor McGonagall. Others, Like Professor Dumbledore, are very relaxed.
Everyone eventually finished eating, and we, the first years, are told to follow the prefects to our common room.
I stand and follow out Harry and Ron. Percy Weasley leads us up flights of stairs. I must be really out of shape though, since I am actually tired. Moving portraits of people cover the walls up to the common room. I have never seen anything like this before, as I have been living in the muggle world. All of the portraits smile and wave at us.
We reach a large portrait of a woman, apparently called the fat lady.
"Caput Dragonis. That is the password." Says Percy.
The fat lady opens up the way to the common room, and everybody files in. Most people make their way up to their dormitories, including me. Including me, there are four of us. Hermione for one, also two other girls that I don't know.
"Oh, hello Alex, good to see you." Hermione greets.
I nod and turn to the other girls. "My names Alex. Alex Curtis." I say, smiling.
"Lavender Brown." One girl with light brown hair replies.
"I'm Parvarti Patil." Says the other. "It's nice to meet you."
I turn to my bed and start unpacking my trunk, unpacking everything neatly. When I am done I go back into the common room, hoping to find Harry and Ron. But there are many people down there. I hear someone behind me and turn to see Hermione following me down. She silently comes to start walking beside me, neither of us talking. I don't mind, I need to meet new people.
I reach Harry and Ron, who are with a few other boys. I am introduced to them. Their names are Dean, Seamus and Neville. The five boys, plus Hermione and I, sit down on the couches and start chatting to each other about random things. Only Hermione is mostly silent.
Soon enough, I find myself knowing details about each of the people here.
"-He was speechless!" Dean finishes telling us about his old classmate. I giggle at Dean's cleverness.
Hermione leaves to get to bed at around ten o'clock for bed, but everyone else stays. Before I know it, the time is nearly midnight. I had been having so much fun getting to know everyone that the time just flew by.
I excuse myself from the group and quickly go up to bed. I change into my pj's and jump into my bed. I shut the curtains on my bed, set my alarm and lay down in the dark. I think about classes tomorrow. What will my schedule be? I can't wait to learn to fly. I hope my classes will be fun. I especially can't wait for transfiguration, charms, and maybe even potions, if Snape isn't too bad. I think.
As I continue to think about Hogwarts, I drift off into sleep, tired from the day I have had.
