"What's this mommy?" A little girl named Alexandra asked, pointing out the window into the night at a shooting star.
"That, my dear, is a wishing star. If you concentrate really hard on something you really want and wish for it, it could come true. But only if you be a very good girl. And you can't tell anybody what you wished for, or it won't come true."
The girl gazed in awe at the wondrous object dashing across the sky with her big, hazel eyes.
"Can- can I make a wish?" She said nervously.
"Of course you can Alex! Make it a good one!" Her mom exclaimed, using the nickname for her daughter that everyone who knows her uses.
The five year-old grinned in delight as she squeezed her eyes shut, pursed her lips shut, and screwed up her face in concentration. She already knew what she would wish for. There is only one thing she wanted. But the problem was, it was pretty much impossible. There is no such thing as magic. But she wished for it anyway. She has always been fascinated with the theory of it. Of course Alex knew it was impossible. She knew that only Santa had magic, but even his magic wasn't what she wanted. She had this gut feeling that magic was real though. She didn't know how she knew, she just did. And that is pretty good for a five year-old. There was this one time, when she made a book fly straight to her though, but she never told anybody.
When Alex finished making her wish, the small girl opened her eyes and grinned once again.
"So, honey, what did you wish for?" The girls mother asked with a smile on her face.
Alex's grin fell and a small line of confusion appeared on her forehead. Why would she ask that question? Wasn't she the one that told her that if you tell people your wish it wouldn't come true? Alex shook her head, her long brown hair flying into her face. She slipped a smile back onto her face.
"If I do that than my wish won't come true, remember?" She said with an unusual slyness in her voice.
Alex's mom smiled to herself at her daughter's cleverness. "Okay, okay. You win. But it's getting late. It's bedtime."
"What? No! I'm not tired!" Alex ran out of her room and hopped down the many stairs and ran into the kitchen, where her father was sitting on a chair reading the newspaper.
Alex jumped onto his lap, putting her arms around his neck and squeezed so hard she almost choked him.
"Daddy pleasssseeeeee don't make me go to bed! Mommy says it's bedtime but I'm not tired at all!" She whined.
"Well sweetie, if mommy says it's bedtime, it's bedtime." He replies.
"But I don't wanna go to bed!" She exclaims stubbornly with a pout.
"Well, maybe I can convince mommy to let me read you a story before bedtime than?" He asks questioningly at the figure leaning on the door frame. She nods slightly, smiling at the bonding moment her daughter and husband were having.
"Oh thank you, thank you!" Alex hugs him tightly and hurries over to her mom to give her a hug also.
Alex scrambles up the stairs and into her room. Her bookshelf has many books, but half of them were left untouched, for there was one book that was read all the time. She scurries over and snatches the book. It's called 'The Witch From Cloud Palace.'
As her dad slowly climbs the stairs to her room, Alex climbs onto her tall bed with its pink butterfly bed sheets and big fluffy pillows, and waits. She sits cross legged on her bed and thinks about the wish she made earlier. She hopes that it will come true with all her might. Who knows, maybe it would.
Her dad finally shows up after what seemed like forever to Alex. He walks over and sits right beside her on her bed. He opens the book to the very first page, and Alex's face lights up. She leans over onto her dad and peeks at the colorful pictures dotting the pages that make the book seem even better and more interesting.
"One day, Bonnie the witch was playing in her garden outside of Cloud Palace..." Alex's dad started reading and she couldn't hold in her squeal of delight, because this book never gets old, to her anyway.
* * *
Alex lay in her bed, listening. Her parents are having an argument right outside of her bedroom door. She can't help but overhearing, even though she knows she shouldn't be hearing this.
"Should we tell her?" She hears a feminine voice, her mom, whisper.
"No we can't! She is too young." Her dad said in a rushed, but quiet, voice.
"I think we should, she has a right to know." Her mom said again.
"We will tell her eventually, be patient." her dad said, trying to reason with his wife.
"It's better sooner than later I always say. We can not wait, she will find out on her own and that will be even worse!" Her mom was getting louder now.
"Please, darling, be reasonable. Let's wait." He was begging now.
"Oh alright. You win this time. But this will not be the last you hear from me, alright?" Alex's mom was heard stomping down the stairs in defeat.
Alex's dad opened her door to check on the little girl, who quickly pretended to be asleep. He sighed and followed his wife down the stairs.
Alex thought little of what she just heard, being only five years old, and so she forgot about her parents strange conversation and fell quickly into a deep sleep.

Authors note:
So, hi!:)
This is obviously a Harry Potter fanfic.
Ummm, oh yeah. I know this chapter is really short, but it isn't an actual chapter. It is only the prologue, so I expect the chapters will be longer.
This is my first Harry Potter fanfic, but I have written another one. It is on the Gone book series, but I stopped writing it, so no more chapters are being written for it. But if you like the Gone series you should go check it out.
So before I post anything,I am going to write about 5 chapters so I don't get so behind like on my other fanfic I mentioned. There will probably be at most a week between posts, probably less.
Oh, and votes, comments and fans would be VERY appreciated. :)
If you have any questions/comments just put them in the comment section. Feedback is very appreciated, I also don't mind corrections if I get anything wrong. Just let me know if I am missing anything, have gotten a piece of information wrong, or spelled something incorrectly. (:
I am not going to place people in to play Alex or any other character, so use you're wonderful imaginations. (:
I think that is all.
-Alexis
