We made a little camp around the area, with our sleeping bags out and everyone nestled around in a circle.
"It's our turn to stay guard tonight. You two can go to sleep and get some rest." Gilda brushed off the soil that dirtied her pants after clearing the leaves and debris from the ground.
"Alright then, we'll go ahead." Hayato said before quickly nestling into his sleeping bag.
Ayshe was sleeping as well with her dogs close in to provide more warmth and comfort to her. After we made sure that they're fast asleep and a little far off in the distance, we began to discuss the print we discovered earlier.
"That footprint earlier, it must be Mujika and Sonju isn't it?" Gilda pointed out.
"Judging by the shape and the size, it must've been that horse that Sonju brought along the way, I'm sure of it." Don added, confirming my judgement.
"It's true, but we don't know how many stray horses there might be around these woods. It might be them, it might be a stray horse as well. But," I started before Don cut me off. "If it really was them, what do we do?" He stated in a concerned voice.
Don's right, how should we save them? I felt another presence suddenly looming behind me. My head wasn't even able to turn properly before the familiar voice interrupted us.
"I see, the three of you are planning to let the evil-blooded escape." Ayshe's voice broke the silence we were having earlier.
I felt my breath hitch in my throat and the pace of my heartbeat heightened. Blood that felt so cold as if it was frozen, was coursing through my veins very quickly. How is it that I didn't notice the sound of her footsteps at all? If we really got caught now, what are we supposed to do? No, keep calm, just try and reason if all comes to worse. But wait. Ayshe-?
"Y-You understand our language?" Don took the words right off the tip of my tongue.
"I kept that a secret," she frowned with her sharp gaze never wavering from us. This is bad, I was caught off-guard.
"Because I hate them." Ayshe continued.
"Them?" I breathed out in confusion.
Who are they? Demons or humans? She began to tell us about her past, and how she came to be. Humans threw her away because she had a flaw, she was deemed to be a mistake- a failed product, but a demon- her father-, despite living off from devouring human flesh, took her in and raised her lovingly. And that very demon who raised her to what she is now, was the demon Norman and his group killed during the raid.
"They killed him, I have to avenge that. I don't even want to talk to them. The reason I stayed ignorant and obeyed them is to survive this situation first and then kill them once they dropped their guard down." She said as a matter-of-factly.
She then inched closer to us once more, "And what about you three, you wanted to let the evil-blooded escape? Other humans would kill demons without hesitations, including that one earlier, why is it?" She asked.
I sighed at her question.
"Don't get us wrong, we also hate demons, we're scared of them." I started remembering all the family members they've taken away from me, all the lives, everything even to the point of taking Norman away from us, leaving me in a little dark hole of despair and heartache which all of us need to bear while staying alive.
"But Sonju and Mujika, they saved us. Just like how you were saved and raised by your father. They're our friends." I felt tears gathering in my eyes at the thought of having to kill Mujika and Sonju.
