"Students, today you will be receiving a new classmate! Due to familial matters, she has just recently settled into San Fransokyo. I would like you all to treat her with respect just like you do with your fellow peers, and try to include her in as many events as possible. Since it is already the middle of the school year, let's try to make it the best for her before graduation." An older looking male tapped the board to retrieve everyone's attention as he spoke. The man looked ancient, wrinkles adorning his face like spots on a cheetah, but he had a warm and hearty atmosphere about him.
"Mr. Owari, where did she come from?" A student raised her hand, not bothering to wait for the man to call on her before she asked.
"Why don't you ask her yourself? Rosabella, would you please introduce yourself to the class?" The teacher gestured for her to enter the room with a nod and a kind smile.
Rose returned the nod and let out an unsteady breath. There was no need to be so anxious about this introduction, but considering the fact that she was walking into unknown territory and that her window of opportunity to make friends had long passed... she felt very nervous. Taking one more breath, she forced her lips into a smile.
"Hello, my name is Rosabella Nanami. However, I normally go by just Rose. I look forward to having a great school year with you all! " She bowed slightly in front of the group of strangers before looking over to the teacher, passing the spotlight back on to the adult.
"And where is it you and your family came from?" Mr. Owari asked, addressing the question of the previous student.
"New Yosaka City. But I'm very sure I'll have just as much fun here in San Fransokyo!" Rose grinned and slightly tilted her head to the side, creating a lovable look of innocence and gentleness.
Several hushed murmurs were immediately exchanged as Rose stood at the front of the room. She wrung her hands behind her back as the seconds ticked by, the quiet voices of the other students still filling the classroom. At last, Mr. Owari seized the spotlight and began to talk once more.
"Since all the students have already been assigned a seat, why don't you take one of the empty seats near the back? I apologize if that's not where you were hoping to sit, but being an old man like myself, my memory of where all the students sit can be a bit shaky."
Rose nodded and promptly set off for one of the empty seats near the back left of the room, away from the windows and those students that did sit in the back row. Though she tended to be the bold, bubbly, and loving type, she turned rather timid when it came to meeting new people.
After slinging her bag to a spot near her desk on the floor, she took her seat and scanned the room. It was a bit difficult to see the faces of all of her new classmates, but Rose instantly knew something was up when she saw a petite looking student sitting diagonally across from her. She watched as the student swung his legs back and forth, his feet not able to touch the floor of the classroom. Rose figured that the student could have just been short for his age, but something about his atmosphere told her differently. Everything about him just seemed a little... off.
As the rest of the day dragged on, Rose was able to interact with a few of the other students and investigate about the mysterious student. It turned out he was a 9 year old attending the eighth grade at the San Fransokyo International Junior and Senior High School. Ever since he was younger, he was deemed a child prodigy. His name?
Hiro Hamada.
