"Hiro, Rose is here!" The sprightly sound of aunt Cass's voice loudly resonated through the busy café, her voice easily overcoming the clamor of the customers in the building.
"Why don't you go upstairs and meet him there? I'm sure it'll be much quieter there than here." The woman turned to Rose with a kind smile before moving past her to set down a tray of drinks for some customers.
Following her suggestion, Rose climbed up the all too familiar stairway and soon found herself in the company of the younger Hamada. Upon entering the room, she felt a somewhat hostile and cold feeling in the air. Her mind was quickly taken away from the taut feeling of the atmosphere though when Hiro greeted the female with a slight wave.
"Hey, Rose... What's up?"
"Hi Hiro! It's been some time since I last saw you..." She cautiously approached the boy, taking a seat on the edge of his bed while he sat in his chair.
"I wouldn't say too long... it's just been a few days." The words came out slightly harsh and indifferent, signaling to Rose that something was definitely up with the boy.
"Heh... I suppose you're right. But it's not like before where I basically lived at your house 24/7." She smiled gently and chuckled, memories of their glorious past flooding into her mind.
"Yeah, definitely not like before." He replied curtly, turning away from Rose.
"..." Her forehead creased as she frowned, a heavy feeling suddenly engulfing the girl.
"Hiro, what's wrong?"
"..."
"Nothing's wrong."
"... You and I both know that's a lie. Seriously, what's wrong? Is it girl problems?" Rose joked, trying her best to lighten the mood.
Hiro remained silent for a second before responding, turning around in his chair to face her once again. A distraught look had now taken hold of his face, eyes full with a look of despair.
"H...Hiro?"
"Yes, you're right actually. Girl problems."
"..." Rose was just kidding, but now that he admitted that he really was having girl problems, she felt a bit bad.
"With you, in fact." He looked at Rose with an intense stare, his eyes flickering all across her face as if he were searching for an answer.
"M-Me?" She stammered, gripping the sheets of Hiro's bed as he stared daggers into the girl.
Hiro let out an empty sigh and looked at the ground, hanging his head.
"Yes... you."
"I don't..." She began.
"Ever since eighth grade, I've had this sort of... crush on you." Hiro interuppted, shyly looking back up at Rose.
"You were always so happy and had this fiery spark in your eyes that I couldn't stop liking... but I didn't do anything about my feelings at the time and now look what's happened..." He paused, giving Rose a chance to process what he was saying.
Hiro... liked her? She always noticed that he was especially fond of her... but she never realized that it was because he liked her.
It was in that moment that she felt her stomach drop and a dark, heavy feeling punched her. She was dating Tadashi now... and all along when Hiro had had these romantic feelings directed at her... It made Rose feel guilty and upset, her lips now forming a frown.
