Chapter 4: Befriending the Prodigy

        "Excuse me! Are you...er, Rosabella Nanami?" 

The smooth voice shook Rose out of her thoughts as she waited for her mother to come pick her up from school. She had much to talk about with her mom, mainly revolving around the fact that at the end of her first day at San Fransokyo International a.k.a. SFI, she had deterred the other students from becoming her friend. Regardless, Rose spun on her heels to see who was talking to her.

        "Hiro?" Was the first word that came out of her mouth after she spotted the young boy stand behind another figure, almost hidden from her view. Then her eyes moved to the taller male that stood between her and Hiro. Green eyes met with brown, and Rose felt her stomach lurch forwards. 

        "I... um, yes. I'm Rosabella Nanami. How may I help you?" 

        "Not help, more like thank! I'm Tadashi Hamada, Hiro's older brother." He offered his hand to the girl, a gesture much too polite and gentlemanly for someone of his age. She guessed he was around 14 or so, only a year older than she was. Nevertheless, Rose shook the older Hamada's hand and smiled softly. Then she pursed her lips slightly before parting them to speak.

        "Thank me? For what? I don't... it's  my first day here and I don't believe I did anything outstandingly helpful or anything..." 

        "Er, well maybe it doesn't seem like a big deal to you, but Hiro over here told me that you stood up for him during school today." He stepped to the side and lightly pushed Hiro forwards, a sheepish look plastered to the young boy's face.

Rose smiled and nodded in acknowledgement of Hiro. She offered a thumbs up and a giggle.

        "Oh, it was my pleasure to be able to stand up for you! Those other students were jerks anyways, they don't even deserve to be in the same class as someone as cute as you." Rose bent down a bit so she was more of Hiro's height, giving him a wink and a cheeky looking grin. She laughed softly when Hiro responded with only averted eyes and a slight shade of red to the cheeks. 

        "He really is cute, huh?" Tadashi agreed and laughed heartily, pulling his younger brother into a headlock before giving him a furious ruffling to his hair. Rose watched the two brothers bicker and tussle for a bit before she burst out laughing, the sound of her melodious laughter quickly putting a stop to the brotherly quarrel. 

        "W...What is it?" Hiro piped up finally, his voice quiet yet curious.

Rose wiped at the tears that had started to form in her eyes from the amount of laughing she was doing, shaking her head in the process.

        "It's nothing... simply that such friendly and amusing interactions between the two of you really do lighten the mood." 

        "Aha... well it happens all the time between us. A lot of other people seem to find it annoying at times, especially this knucklehead over here." Tadashi let go of his brother and gave his hair one last ruffle before tilting his own head forwards a bit in a subtle bow.

        "Anyways... we've got to head home now, or our aunt will be worried sick. She might start stress eating if we don't hurry... It was nice to meet you though, Rosabella!" The older male rubbed the back of his neck and grinned a charming grin, causing Rose to automatically return the smile. She could feel her cheeks start to warm up a bit. 

        "R-Right, then I suppose I shall see you tomorrow! Or... maybe just Hiro. You're in which grade, if I may ask?" 

        "I'm currently in ninth grade, only one grade higher than genius over here." Tadashi chuckled and took hold of Hiro's sleeve, gently pulling in his direction.

        "Ah! Well I apologize for keeping you then, I'll see you tomorrow then, Hiro!" Rose grinned and waved at the two brothers as they began to walk away. Once they were out of her line of vision, she sighed. An uneasy yet somewhat light feeling in her stomach had replaced the previous churning...

Had she just befriended the child prodigy and his brother?
