"We're not meant for each other, Patrick."

Patrick, after this sentence, didn't know if he's supposed to be angry or sad. He didn't understand a thing.

"Can you tell me..." Patrick took a deep breath. "... what did I do to you? Did I hurt you somehow?" He asked and tried to catch Ellen's eyes. However, she was staring at the floor as if it were something utterly gorgeous.

"El, please... I just don't understand." He tried one more time but when he saw that he was not going to get any response, he decided to leave. Just at the moment Ellen started to cry from the pain she's put herself into.

Patrick decided to spend his free day at home, not going anywhere, not seeing anyone. He was thinking about Ellen all the time, he felt like he couldn't continue like this anymore. He needed to end things with Jillian even though he will never be with Ellen. He doesn't want to live this life for any longer.

As it was getting dark, Patrick decided to prepare dinner to talk to his wife. While cooking, he was thinking what he wants in his life, what are the priorities for him and especially, what he doesn't want in his life.

"Patrick?" He was taken back to Earth by Jillian's voice shouting at him from the front door. This is exactly the reason.. He said to himself while setting the table.

"I prepared the dinner." He announced and watched Jillian comming to him, still on her phone.

"What's for dinner?" She asked sitting down at the table. Patrick started to put food on their plates.

"Stuffed chicken with salad." He said sharply and tried to eat his own portion but couldn't force to eat just a little. His stomach was tight from the stress from what was coming after the dinner.

After the dinner, Patrick got nervous, he took a bottle of wine and poured two glasses. He went to the sofa where his wife was already sitting, still on her mobile phone. Patrick sat carefully next to her, passing her the glass.

"Are we celebrating something?" She scoffed at him. Patrick froze a little, feeling completely exhausted from this situation, from everything right now.

"We need to talk, Jil," he said, almost whispered. He wanted to tell her everything, just like it was, all the truth, but he was unsure of her reaction and that she wouldn't understand.

"Here we go again." She laughed bitterly, putting her phone on the coffee table, facing him. "Go on, I am all ready to listen to your bullshit about getting divorced because of that little slut." Patrick got angry at her words, he rose from the sofa and started to pace here and there.

"Jillian, you don't get it," he took a moment before he continued, "I don't want to do this anymore, I don't want to fight with you, I want to be happy." He stopped, unsure of what to say next but Jillian was faster.

"So you're simply saying you want to be with her and ruin everything we have together?" She was mocking him. Patrick was at loss of words. He was staring at her and he decided to tell the truth, to lose or to win.

"Jillian... I..." He tried again. "I don't know how to explain this to you but... " He tried to steady his breath. "I want to be alone, I want to be happy again and with you... It's been over for a while and you know it." He sat down on the sofa again. "Ellen decided to ignore me so there is nothing going on between us. She told me to be with you, that I am married and there is no point trying to reach for her." Patrick was completely broken speaking about Ellen refusing him but he was ready to make this change because of him, because he wanted to be happy.

Patrick grabbed Jillian's hand in his and looked into her eyes. "There is no reason staying together. I know you're seeing someone..." He trailed away a little. "And I want you to be happy. You can take everything you want, I can pay whatever you want... just say it and it's yours." Exhaustion was spreading all over his body. He lost everything. He lost Ellen and nothing else mattered to him.

"Okay... now it sounds like we can make a deal." Jillian stood up and poured another glass of wine.
