[chapter twelve. hannah's pov]
"Have you girls got everything?" Ashton questioned while holding a duffel bag full of supplies. We were all currently stood in the lounge room, each of us with our own bags full of things we had collected. I nodded and so did Antonella. "Alright, let's go then."
Following behind Ashton with Antonella just behind me, the three of us exited the house. I stabbed the first walker I saw in the head, and it's now-dead body fell limp to the ground. We proceeded down the front yard and turned left onto the road. The big black building we had claimed was in sight- probably a kilometer away from where we were stood.
Walking at a fast but hushed pace, I made sure to look left and right in case a walker took us by surprise. Ashton observed ahead of us with his knife held out in front of his figure and Antonella faced behind us, her back pressed to mine. To our luck, it was a ghost town, but we had to be certain.
A sudden rustling in the distance followed by voices and a few whimpers was heard, causing Ashton to cease movement. I stumbled into his frozen body and he wrapped one arm around me in a protective manor. Curse words were thrown back and forth between, from what I could tell, females and there where-abouts was yet to be identified.
"Hurry up, Jennif!" Someone yelled.
"I'm trying! My legs are so sore!" Another replied.
"We have to get her to safety!" Said the first.
Three female figures stumbled out from behind a house. Two girls held another with her arms wrapped around their necks. The third girl was covered in blood with a massive chunk taken out of her leg, whimpering and trying to contain herself. Ashton looked to me before I dropped my bags and rushed towards them, the taller lad following close behind me.
"Hey!" I called out. "Hey, wait!"
They turned to face me, both panic and strain contorting their features. Ashton ran up beside me and gave me a look as if to ask for my permission and I nodded. He grabbed the injured girl and held her bridal style while Antonella and I rushed the other two towards the Asylum, just managing to hold our things. They didn't seem to protest once their friend was no longer being dragged along the concrete.
The six of us reached the entrance to the large building and Ashton kicked it open with his foot, rushing down the hallway. We all sprinted behind and Antonella stayed behind to lock the door. The curly haired boy turned the corner and we followed shortly aftter, zooming past all the metal doors lining the walls.
Stumbling over his own feet, Ashton managed to make it safely into the room we'd slept in last night. He placed the red-head down on the floor and grabbed an old rag lying on the floor. I dropped all my things to the floor, and kneeled down beside the other girls who were on the floor beside their friend.
Ashton's hands were shaking as he repeatedly wrapped the rag around the wound, but the girl placed her bloodied hand on his shoulder causing him to freeze. His glistening eyes moved to meet hers and she shook her head, muttering a faint 'leave it'. I furrowed my brows.
"There's no use in trying to help me," She whispered.
"Peyton! Don't be like that! You're going to be fine!" The brunette scolded.
"You don't get it, Destiny... I'm already dead," Said Peyton.

We were all gathered around the small, metal seats attached to the tank, observing as Shakila drove the tank along the highway. It had been one to two hours since we'd left the city and things were running smoothly, almost too smoothly. I knew something would go wrong. It always does. But I decided to shrug away the thought and divert my attention to Luna who was sitting on the ground at my feet.
She played with my shoe-laces, her blue eyes trained to the object between her tiny fingers. She was the most adorable baby I had ever seen. Her sandy hair was short with little ringlets, reaching just above her shoulders. Her eyes were this type of blue, an icy colour mixed with specks of grey and what looked like white. Her cheeks were full and always tinted a light red, kind of like Hannah's.
I felt a pang of hurt and my mind flicked back to the last time I saw the dirty, blonde haired, hazel eyed girl. Her face was grazed and covered in blood, tears staining her cheeks and dried skin crackling along the surface of her lips. She was a complete mess... A beautiful mess. I imagined what it would be like to hug her- to hold her in my arms and whisper things like 'I'm never letting you go' in her ear.
I bent down and propped my hands under Luna's armpits, lifting her up onto my lap. A toothy smile graced her lips. "Dad-da!" She giggled, holding my cheek in her small hand. I smiled and brought her to my chest, pressing soft kisses to her forehead. "Shila!" She pointed to Shakila who looked over with a surprised expression. "Lum!" Luna turned to Calum. "Mi-Mi!" And then to Michael.
"Good job, Luna," I replied in an encouraging tone.
"Han...nah," Her voice was now laced with what seemed like sadness.
"I know, baby girl. I know," I sighed.
Luna turned around on my lap and began pressing random buttons on the panel board in front of us. I tried to stop her until her small hand landed on the large, red button in the center. I winced. Of course- Of course she'd press that one. The tank began to slow to stop while sirens rang through our ears. Luna giggled, clapping her hands excitedly. Shakila, panicked and wide-eyed, turned to face me.
"Luke! What the fuck did Luna just do?!" She screamed.
"She pressed that," I pointed to the button.
"Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" Michael began to wail.
"You never press the big red button," Said Calum.
"Don't swear in front of Luna!" I scolded Michael who rolled his eyes.
"We need to get out of here!" Shakila replied, grabbing a duffel bag.
"What? Why?" Said Calum, clearly panic-stricken.
She froze and looked me in the eyes, "Luna just pressed the self-destruct button."
