[chapter sixteen. hannah's pov]
"Run!" Luke yelled, only just managing to hold the gate closed. I wanted to stay and help him fight off the zombies, but I knew I had to protect Luna. I collected the frightened child in my arms and jogged my way toward the entrance of the institution, glancing over my shoulder in the process. "They're too strong!" The blonde boy grunted while Antonella hit the creatures over the head with Luke's baseball bat.
I had a choice. I could either stay and help and possibly ruin Luna's chance at surviving, or I could run inside and retrieve the girls who would double our possibilities of fighting of the horde. The latter sounded more reasonable, so I shoved the metal doors open and sprinted down the hall, screaming "Destiny! Jennif! There's a bunch of zombies outside! We need your help!"
The two girls rushed out of the food court, worried, confused (by the baby, of course) and clutching a gun each in their hands. I ushered them to follow and they did, following full speed back toward the front of the building. I almost tripped on my own feet at least twice, but quickly regained my balance and proceeded. But thankfully, the amount of zombies that were gathered around had decreased by half, although there was still quite allot. Destiny set into action and bolted toward Luke, blasting the creature closest to him.
"Where the hell did the baby come from?" Jennif yelled from behind Ella.
"Long story!" I replied and tried to hush Luna's crying.
"Then who's the boy?"
"Hannah's boyfriend and also father of their child!" Ella replied.
I almost face-palmed. Both times the situation had been explained, it sounded like we'd done it together and I had fallen pregnant. Jennif turned to me, a huge smile playing along her lips. Well, at least she wasn't shocked. But Destiny, on the other hand, looked utterly disgusted and scowled at Luke. He didn't have the time to sass her out, since a zombie had clawed at his head and sent him falling to the ground.
"Luke!" I screamed and panic became my only emotion.
The gate creaked open and slowly, one by one, the gory figures limped toward us. Luke crawled backwards, mouth agape and horror contorting his features. Jennif and Destiny shot as many as possible, Ella belted them around the head with the bat and I... did nothing. I felt useless and horrible. I could have been out there helping, but instead, I was stuck with a screaming baby. But I knew what I had to do. Luna had to survive and I had to make sure of that.
A being which resembled that of a mangled stripper fell on top of Luke, clawing and growling at him. He was only just able to fight her off, but he didn't escape without another large gash slicing his forehead. The sight caused my stomach to churn. Blood seeped and trickled down the side of his face, nevertheless, he fought onward. Luke jumped to his feet and punched and kicked and tackled, relentlessly battling a battle he was determined to win. I knew he could anyways.
A deep, throaty growl resonated from behind me and I froze, eyes widening and heart rate increasing. Slowly, my body turned to face the red-headed girl with clouded, grey eyes and green skin. She stood motionless for a minute, just staring and watching. It was like everything froze and all that was heard were the grunts and gun shots from behind me. Clearly, no one had noticed and I was sure I'd die.
It was likes something suddenly clicked within her dead brain and in the time frame of a split second, she was lunging toward me with her arms extended. My breath hitched and I completely froze, scared for both Luna and I. But before she could even lay as so much for a finger on me, a deafening bang pierced the air, lurching the girls head forward in a sickening way. Her body fell forward at my feet, blood pooling and leaking from the bullet wound in the back of her head.
I looked up and couldn't help but fight the smile that formed at the sight of the curly haired boy covered in sweat and grime, a peace of grey material tied around his head while his black clothes clung to his body, gun in hand and fury contorting his features. He stepped forward, nodding once as if to say "Hey" before swerving around me and heading toward the others.
By now, all of the zombies had been cleared, well, all but one. Ashton held his gun up and without one sign of hesitation, blasted it's head to smithereens. He trudged over to Luke, not one word spoken, pulled him into a hug and wrapped his arms so tightly around the taller boys torso that I was beginning to think he'd kill him. But that's what I thought when I hugged Luke after two months of not seeing him.
They departed and Ashton placed a hand on the blondes shoulder, muttering something low enough that only the pair of them could hear. Luke's blue eyes flickered to mine and he smiled, before returning to Ashton intense gaze. "Got it? Don't you dare hurt her. Don't you dare loose her. She's yours and if you do anything wrong, I'll kill you. Screw up and you're a goner," The curly haired boy explained.
"Of course," Luke replied before walking toward me. He wrapped an arm around my waist, nuzzling his face into my neck. On any normal occasion, I would have pulled away since his face was smothered in blood, but instead I wrapped my free arm that wasn't holding Luna around his torso and pulled him closer, resting my head against his collar bone. "You mean so much to me, Hannah. Not just me, though. Luna's been crying for you every night since you disappeared."
I looked up at him and smiled, about to reply but someone stopped me.
"Fuck!" Someone screamed and we all looked over to find Jennif fallen to the ground, clutching her shoulder which was now pooling with a crimson liquid. A zombie stood behind, the flesh once lying upon the blondes shoulder littering it's teeth. Destiny began wailing, rushing to her companions side while pulling her onto her lap, wrapping her arms tightly around her.
"Night, night, Mother fucker," Ashton growled, blasting the creature's head.
Holy fuck-a-roo.

I watched with sad eyes as Calum hugged Shakila's weak body to his chest, stroking her brunette curls which clung to her sweaty forehead. This was all too much to handle and the fact we I hadn't a clue how to help her made the situation worse. We'd managed to keep her alive for the past two weeks, but she was slowly dying and if we didn't get her professional help soon, she'd most probably perish.
To say I regretted telling Luke to leave would be an understatement. We needed him and his strong will. But he was most definitely in a better place, forming a family with Hannah and Luna and living happily together. He needed to continue, for both Luna and his sake. I didn't want him giving up a perfect life he was sure to have, just for us. We could save ourselves... in time.
"Calum?" Shakila groaned.
"Yes, baby? What is it?" He replied far too quickly.
"I love you," She croaked.
Tears formed in his eyes, "I love you too."
Shakila nodded, "I just needed you to know in case."
Silence fell between them and I had to look away as they kissed, cringing and wishing this room wasn't so small. I moved toward the front of the convenience store we'd managed to convert into a temporary bunker until we could get back on our feet, and searched for something entertaining to do. But I froze when I noticed the front door wide open- wind sweeping through the muggy air. Someone cleared their throat from behind me and I snapped around, only to come face to face with a familiar brunette.
"I don't mean to intrude or anything," Alex started.
