Waves

The waves crashed along the shore, causing the sand to recede in and out. The stars glittered the sky, light shining down onto the ocean, lighting up the beach. The beach was like a resting spot for me, it was a portal away from all the worlds problems. My mind only focusing on the water, that had the power to take over the entire world, but remained in its peaceful state. Who knew the beach could be somewhat inspiring. After what happened at the dinner table that night, everyone separated that night. The fallout from the fight was almost scary, no one had been talking for almost two hours.
"Hey star girl, are you lonely?" I turned around to see Gwen, walking towards me with her usual smile.
"Yeah, I guess so." I smiled back, as she sat next to me. "You're the first person i've talked to in awhile."
"I feel honoured, why do you want to be out here all alone?" she asked, smoothing and pinning back a piece of my loose curls around my ear.
"Is it really that different back in the house? No one is talking to eachother."
"I mean, you can always come to me and Eddie's room."
I looked at her, she was definitely really trying.
"Why didn't you tell us you were dating Eddie?" I questioned, looking back at the water.
"I wanted it to be a surprise. I didn't know the surprise would have this type of reaction."
"Yeah, definitely a great surprise."
"Eddie is a great guy, he's dedicated, hardworking and overall treats me better than any other guy has. I know you and Peter may not like him, but I hope once all this newspaper stuff is over you guys will see it." Gwen shuffled her feet while she talked.
"If you're happy, then i'll be happy." I smiled back, her smile taking over her face once again.
"Anyways, where's Peter? You guys are inseparable."
"We haven't talked." Peter and I had gotten into a small arguement regarding what he was going to do about Harry. He was right, it really is none of my business, but it stressed me out to know that they were fighting. Especially now.
"How come? You guys weren't the one fighting."
"Yeah, well apparently he doesn't need me to help. So, I don't want to bother him."
"Mj, I've known Peter since we were  5 years old. You know how i've always described him? A mess. He's never gone through a month without tripping up. When you guys started coming together, he's so much more calm and collected with you by his side. We all see the difference, maybe you don't, but it's there. He needs you, more than he may ever admit." Gwen nudged my shoulder as she said the last part. I was shocked to hear that all, I guess I had never noticed Peter very much throughout the years, before highschool.
"If he needs me so much, why push me away?"
"Sometimes when we are under pressure, we say things we don't mean. Give him time to realize it."
"Oh Gwen, what would we ever do without you?" I said as I laid my head down against hers.
"I'll always be here for you." She muttered, lying hers down back on mine.

We spent half the night, sitting there and enjoying each others presence. She was right, Peter was my other half basically. I missed him next to me in the last couple hours, but having Gwen next to me felt great. I wish there was more of these moments, and that they could last forever.
