"Do you have feelings for him?"
I found myself sitting in the icecream place on 68th, with Peter Parker across from me. We decided to go here now, instead of our last place. Inflation in New York was at an all time high, and this was the last place in the city where you could still get a milkshake for $2.99.
His question was simple, but binded of feelings. He stared at me with his big doe eyes, his brown curls loosely falling from his head to his eyes.
"No, he's dating Gwen. So even if I found him even mildly attractive, I would never do that."
"Yeah I know but...I don't know."
Peter sighed, shrinking in his seat. I'm not sure why he was so worried about this, he had nothing to be jealous, or upset over.
"Peter I don't understand, why do you care?" I asked carefully, I didn't want to seem rude, I just didn't get it, he had been acting weird whenever someone brought up Eddie.
"MJ, I need to tell you that-" He started and I braced to listen, but before he could even start we were interrupted by a voice behind us.
"Hey guys, didn't expect to see you here!"
We turned around to see Mae Reid, our friend from the Daily Bugle, standing there, giving us a look of almost fake cheerfulness.
"Oh, Hi." Peter muttered, seeming oddly uncomfortable.
I glanced at him, before asking her to sit with us. Her being older, a college student, we didn't really see her beyond where we worked.
"I thought I would tell you guys that I was offered an internship at Oscorp, you know, that company your pretty friend owns." She spoke confidently, almost seeming like she meant it as a challenge, for us to deny that she had.
"Anyways, I heard you talking about that Brock kid. He wanted to invite you to a dinner, him and his girlfriend are throwing tonight. I hear you're friends?"
That being all she wanted to say, she gave us a small nod of her head before she swiftly got up and left.
"Why didn't Gwen just invite us?" Peter said quickly, shooting me a quick look after watching her walk out of the store.
"I don't know, maybe Eddie was there today and asked her to tell us?"
"But why was Mae just randomly here, like she was waiting for us to be here?"
"I don't know Peter, maybe she was in the bathroom before we got here?"
"But think about it MJ, it makes sense. I've done calculations and research, the symbiote that went missing that night is what makes Venom what it is. It needs a bond, right? The symbiote bonds with a human, creating some big monster with powers similar to mine. Remember how we never found it, how you found Eddie and I in that room when it went missing? Eddie stole it, I didn't know this before but I do now."
My eyes widened, at Peters sudden information dump. He was right, it could make sense, but it also didn't make sense. Eddie wouldn't do that, he wouldn't attack innocent people, he wouldn't attack the school that his girlfriend attended. He wouldn't, right?
"Peter, I think you've turned manic. I think you just need a few days off and just let the police deal with Venom, ok? This is starting to drive you crazy, you're looking for answers where they don't exist."
"Come on, there has to be a point when you were looking for it with him where something atleast seemed off."
When I watched him say that, I realized how tired he looked. The bags under his eyes were dark, and bigger than ever. He looks like instead of sleeping, he's been up all night doing something that didn't seem to end. That's when I also remembered something about that night, how Eddie seemed so frantic about me looking at the security cameras. Maybe, just maybe, Peter was onto something.

The walk to Oscorp was more like a run. When I told Peter about the security cameras, he immediately insisted of going there right away. He looked back every 5 seconds to make sure "no one was following us."
When we reached the building, we slowed down a bit to make sure we didn't run into anyone. We still walked briskly, catching stares from everyone we passed. We looked as though we were up to something bad, but Peter had no intent to slowing down.
"Once we see that he didn't do anything, you're going to relax about this, okay?" I told him, once we made it to the small room full of computers. He hummed as he quickly locked the door after him.
We found the day it happened, August 15th, and clicked on 7:15pm.
It took a few seconds for Peter and Eddie to walk into the room where the symbiote used to be held. We watched anxiously as they both pulled out their cameras like they said they were doing.
I was beginning to conclude that nothing was going to happen, Peter was wrong and Eddie really wasn't Venom. He hadn't taken the symbiote.
But, I watched in dismay as Eddie pushed Peter into the button that opened the cage. He had said that day that day that Peter was the one who pushed him, leading to how it got out, and I believed him.
Peter grimaced as he watched, he had been in the right all along, but we didn't believe that he was innocent, really it wasn't his fault. I was right when I said that Peter wasn't tough, and wouldn't do that.
In the video, Peter looked away from Eddie, seeming to be looking for a way to close it.
And then, to my horror, Eddie reached out his arm. He let the symbiote connect to him, it taking over his arm before absorbing into his arm. He seemed to be the perfect bond, as if he had known before he tried.
I turned it off as Harry and I ran in, we had just missed when Eddie stole it. My breathing quickened as I finally pieced everything together.
"I knew it!" Peter slammed his hands down on the table before standing, then pressing his hands to the back of his head.
"He must've calculated this so perfectly. He wasn't by himself when he was there, he went when you did. He wanted to potentially blame it on you." I said shakily, turning around in my chair to face him.
"Yeah, and obviously you guys wouldn't believe that because it's me. He knows what the symbiote can do, that's why he wanted it. Or maybe he didn't, but either way, he's been hurting people. And he's been fighting me for the last week." Peter said quietly, but his words coming out fast.
"Peter, I'm sorry I didn't-" I started, but he didn't let me finish. He grabbed my arm, rushing me to my feet.
"No time for that, we need to get out of here."
As we opened the door, we almost ran into someone.
Once again, we saw Mae standing there, as if she had been waiting for us.
