"Why are you so tense?"
I was spending the last week of school mostly with Harry, we always started tutoring before school started. Harry wasn't the best at school to put it lightly, he always needed extra help and usually it was me or Peter.
"I'm not tense, why aren't you focusing on the drills?" I asked already in a bad mood, even though we started 5 minutes ago.
"Yes you are, you keep frowning and shuffling. What's up?"
"Nothing, focus Harry."
"Is this all about Parker?"
Peter and I had been having a bit of a rocky time I guess, we weren't dating so it wasn't like we were taking a "break". Things were still awkward, and we hadn't been talking normally since the cabin. It was stupid, but it was happening and I wasn't exactly sure why.
"Why is everything always your business?" I rolled my eyes, tapping on the paper to try and get his eyes back on it.
"I don't know, you're the one acting weird, not me."
I sighed, leaning back down on the chair. It was after hours at Oscorp, so not many people were in the building. We chose this time so there wasn't any distractions, and Harry wasn't always being paged all over the place.
"Let's just focus, okay? See here its,"
I was immediately cut off by a loud alarm filling the room, a strobe light going off.
"What's going on?" I frantically got up, looking around. Harry looked at his smart watch that somehow had all the cameras in one place, so he could see everywhere.
"Oh wow, there's some idiots leftover in the lab."
I followed Harry, running down the long halls until we reached the door that led into the main lab, where the symbiote was held.
When we opened the door, we saw Peter Parker and Eddie Brock standing by an open container. They both had seemed to be fighting, but when they saw us they both gave into shook and fear and put their arms up.
"Harry i'm so, so sorry-" Peter started, but stopped as Harry walked over fast to the container, looking at it with anger.
"What the hell did you do? Where is the symbiote?"
"He shoved me into here and I pressed the button accidentally to release it, it's not my fault!" Eddie exclaimed, fastly pinning the blame down on Peter, who looked at him with another annoyed look, and was about to open his mouth to rebuttal.
"This isn't a time to act like 5 year olds Eddie, it doesn't matter who's fault it is. Where did it go?" I called out, growing more impatient with the basically alien on the loose in the building.
"We don't know, it's just gone. Once it got out, we didn't see it go anywhere." Peter said, looking down with remorse.
"Holy shit, I'm going to be in so much trouble for this," Harry mumbled with a hand on his head, stepping back. "We need to find it, Pete come with me, Mj go with Brock."
I tried so hard not to roll my eyes, of course I was the one that had to pair with Eddie. But now wasn't the time to complain about something silly.Eddie and I started on the same floor, using flashlights to look around. Since the buildings lockdown mode had been triggered, all the electricity went out and we weren't anywhere close to the circuit box.
"Why were you guys even here? Oscorp closed ages ago." I asked quietly, a few steps behind him as he also rummaged around.
"We both wanted pictures of it, but I guess we both got here at a bad time."
"Did Peter actually shove you?"
Eddie took a few seconds to answer, a new expression coming over his face.
"Yeah, he took a few so I tried to come in and get some and he pushed me out of the way, and I bumped into it."
"Oh, that doesn't sound like him." I said, genuinely confused. Peter was always usually quite gentle and reserved, he wasn't one to lash out for such a small reason.
"Maybe you don't know him as much as you think." Eddie turned around to glance at me.
"Maybe I don't." I looked down, breaking our eye contact and we kept moving forward. We looked for another 20 minutes, both slowly losing patience and energy.
"Hey, why don't we split up? You go that way, I go over there, okay?" Eddie spoke up.
"Yeah, okay."
I walked down the halls, getting a shiver up my spine as cold air filled the dark halls. There wasn't much to look at, as it was just empty halls at this point. I was silently praying that Harry and Peter were having more luck in their hunt. It was never fun situations where we had to walk around an Osborn facility in the dark.
I came to the door, that read "Security room". I was guessing that's where they had security camera footage.
I walked down and sat on the chair next to the computer. Obviously, the power was out, but being a woman of science and technology, I knew how to rework a circuit to get the computers back on.
I almost had the power, but before I could turn it on I felt a cold, heavy hand on my shoulder. I almost screamed as it quickly spun me around in the chair. Eddie stood there, looking at me with a worried look on his face.
"What are you doing?" He questioned loudly and almost frantically. Something was off, but I just guessed that everyone was on edge tonight.
"I wanted to look on the cameras to see if I could see where it went when it came out of the container, that's all. Did you find anything?" I explained calmly, tilting my head as he took his arm off me and walked backwards slowly.
"No, but Harry, um, told us to come back to the lobby."
"He did? He didn't text me."
"Well I got a text! So let's go, okay?" Eddie grimaced, his tone of voice took me by surprise. He seemed to be in an even more edgy mood than I thought. To prevent another outbreak like that, I just did what he said and left the room.
"Did you.. see anything on the camera?" He asked me as we were walking down the stairs.
"No, you jumped out of the shadows before I could even turn it on."
"Oh, well i'm sorry. I don't know what got into me."
I just shrugged, he was acting weird. Even for him.We met Harry and Peter at the doors, you could tell Peter had been repeatedly apologizing throughout the last hour.
"Harry.." Peter started, but before he could go on Harry cut him off for the second time that night.
"I don't want to hear it anymore, just go home guys. I don't need anything more ruined.
We could see how mad Harry was, and for a completely understandable reason so we obeyed his wishes and left. We all walked home together, it being quite dark out.
"He definitely hates me now." Peter sighed, his head down and his hands in his pockets.
"Once they find it, it'll be okay. You didn't mean to do it." I tried to be as reassuring as I could.
"Well, i'll see you guys around." Eddie broke off from us randomly, walking down the opposite street.
I watched him as he walked, I squinted my eyes as I thought I could see a small speck of black on his jacket.
