"so, how is haechan going?"

"he's getting better." mark replied nonchalantly.

"you don't seem too concerned by it." jeno laughed.

mark scoffed. "he ruined my chemistry project. i had a zero because of him."

"yeah but you nearly lost your cat. that's a bit more important than having a zero." jaemin rolled his eyes.

"i don't even like cats." mark mumbled.

"anyway. if he's getting better that's what matters. will he be fit enough to go to an animal nursery?" jeno asked.

mark raised a brow in confusion. "an animal nursery?"

"yeah. you don't intend to bring haechan to the trip to the mountains we have next week, do you?" jaemin looked at the older.

"oh fuck... i had totally forgotten about that..."

about a month ago, they had signed in for a one-week trip to the mountain. they had agreed to go because hina wanted to go, but now that haechan had barged into his life, it had messed everything up again.

"i guess we can confirm you have no brain." jeno laughed, resting his forehead on his boyfriend's shoulder.

"shut up! i have a life." mark groaned, thinking of a solution. "and my life is pretty complicated at the moment so will you please spare me your bullshit?"

the couple giggled.

"sure, being single and having a cat is the worst thing!" jaemin laughed his ass out.

"mark!" a female called.

mark turned around, meeting hina's sparking eyes, making him forget all his worries.

"hey hina!" he waved as she approached him.

"i was wondering if you were doing something this afternoon?" she asked with a smile.

"i'm free." mark combed his hair back with his hand, earning a laugh from jeno.

"then can we maybe... hang out?" she tilted her head.

"sure." mark grinned.

"cool! see you after school then! bye guys!" she said before bouncing back to her friends.

"whipped." jeno said, waking mark up from his daydream.

"she's beautiful, isn't she?"

jeno shrugged. "jaemin is better." he said, kissing his boyfriend.

"jaemin is your boyfriend jeno. that's normal." mark scoffed.

"well, then renjun is better."

mark spat the water he was drinking and looked at jeno and jaemin.

"that's called cheating." he told jeno. "and you're not bothered?" he asked jaemin.

"i can't blame him... he's right..." jaemin shrugged.

"and you dare calling me whipped..." mark rolled his eyes.

mark opened the front door of his house.

his afternoon had been absolutely awesome.

he had enjoyed his time with hina at the park where they had listened to a random band that had played some popular songs while people danced around them. then, they had had dinner together in a snack, sharing their stupid experiences and laughing about nonsense jokes.

they didn't consider these outings as dates because their feelings were unspoken, but, yeah, mark was sure he liked her. hina may not like him back, mark was willing to wait for her to reciprocate his feelings.

the boy took off his shoes and threw his car keys on the entrance counter.

"it's late." donghyuck's weak voice startled him.

"yeah, and?" mark raised a brow, looking at the cat person. he was lying on the sofa, looking very pale and there were still stains of tears on his cheeks.

"i'm hungry..." he mumbled. "i didn't eat since this morning..."

mark widened his eyes. "why didn't you cook?"

"i'm a cat..." donghyuck started to cry again. "i can't cook..."

mark approached the boy and lifted him into a seated position to dry his tears.

"plus, you hid the cat food..." he sniffled. "and you came home late... is it because you want me to die?" donghyuck's fluffy ears fell down on his head, according to his mood.

"what? no!" mark raised his brows.

"i know you hate me..." donghyuck cried more. "i'm trying to be the more independent but i need attention... i'm a cat..."

"i'm sorry donghyuck, i forgot you didn't know how to cook." mark said guiltily. "i'll find you something to eat." he said before going to the kitchen.

mark came back a minute after with a pot and a spoon.

"this is a yoghourt. open your mouth." mark said, showing donghyuck a spoon full of the pinkish creamy substance.

donghyuck ate it immediately.

"is it good?" mark asked as donghyuck didn't react.

the cat's ears suddenly perked up again and he nodded violently before opening his mouth wide, asking for another spoonful.

mark smiled before feeding the cat.

seven yoghurts later, mark decided he needed to tell donghyuck about the trip to the mountains, and the fact he would have to leave him for a whole week to an animal nursery.

"donghyuck?"

"hm?" the cat hummed, mouth full of apricot yoghourt.

"i had totally forgotten, but next week, i have a trip to the mountains with my class..." mark said, not looking at donghyuck.

"the mountains?" donghyuck repeated excitedly.

"yeah... but it's only for one week. i promise it will be quick!" mark added. "and i'll need to leave you in a- "

"that's so cool! i've always dreamed to go to the mountains!" donghyuck exclaimed.

"huh... what?" mark raised a brow confused.

"when do we leave?" donghyuck asked, bouncing up and down the sofa, the yoghourt long forgotten in mark's hand.

mark thought for a second.

was breaking donghyuck's dream necessary right now?

definitely not.

"in six days." mark said.
