mark, jeno and jaemin were impatiently waiting in front of the arrivals gate.
it was finally the day renjun came back to korea, and the three males were overexcited. the white cat which was snuggled in jaemin's arms was as well. he just couldn't express it the same way as the humans.
"are you sure it's the good gate?" jeno asked, checking the number once again. "renjun told us his plane landed an hour ago. and he's still not here."
"he probably had a problem with his luggage. it's always like this..." mark shrugged, looking for his friend in the crowd of people that were arriving through the gate.
"is it me or do these people look like anything but chinese people?" jaemin raised a brow, leaving mark and jeno speechless.
after a few seconds of silence, a cough caught the three boys off guard. they turned around to meet renjun's small figure, his luggages next to him, and a pout on his face.
"i looked for you everywhere! i thought you didn't come!" he whined.
"renjun!" the three males jumped on the chinese boy.
"why didn't you come out from here?" mark asked, pointing at the gate they were.
"because that's the gate for flights from europe and united states. the ones from asia are on the other side." renjun explained. "but maybe if one of you had learned how to read you would have known that..."
renjun was interrupted in his rambling by a mewl.
"oh, haechan!" he exclaimed. "i hadn't seen you!" he picked the cat in his arms before hugging it tightly. the cat rubbed its head against renjun's neck, happy to see him again.
the four boys walked to the car and drove back to renjun and mark's house. they chatted and laughed the whole way.
renjun kept haechan in his arms or on his lap, eventually petting it and caressing its head and back while talking of what he did in china with jaemin and jeno. however, mark stayed silent the whole time. he was the one who drove, and he couldn't help but steal glances at the cat that was sleeping comfortably on renjun's lap, showered in love and affection, two things mark didn't give him.
now that renjun had come back, was donghyuck never going to come back to mark?
their last meeting had been pretty bad. mark had left the hybrid sobbing and he had done nothing about it. haechan was now giving mark the silent treatment. honestly, mark didn't want to care, but he couldn't. deep inside, he was hurt. he wanted the cat to come to his and cuddle to his side. even if he rejected him, he wanted the cat to show him some affection. it made mark feel loved. this cat was the only person to make mark feel this way...
"mark?" jeno woke mark of his daydream. "watch the road, you're going to kill the five of
us."
"yeah." mark blinked multiple times before focusing on the road again, not letting himself being distracted by jaemin and renjun on the backseat.
"are you thinking about hina again?"
"no." he answered quickly.
that was the truth. mark wasn't thinking about her. but for the sake of donghyuck's secret, he could have lied and told jeno he was thinking about her. but when he thought about it, he didn't really want to think about her right now. he just wanted him and donghyuck to go back to normal. and if they were the way they were now, it was all because he wanted him and hina to be more than friends... so, this time, hina's at fault...
"who are you thinking about then?" jeno asked, his voice low enough so that only mark could hear it.
"donghyuck." mark replied without thinking.
jeno furrowed his brows. "donghyuck? who's that?"
hearing this name coming out of jeno's mouth, mark slammed on the brakes, making jeno hit his head on the dashboard, strangling jaemin and renjun with their seatbelts and sending haechan flying to the front seat.
and that's when mark knew he fucked up.
"what's happening?!" jaemin yelled coughing.
"t-there was a thing crossing the road. and i didn't want to crush it." mark said before driving again.
jaemin and renjun shrugged before talking again as if nothing had happened.
jeno picked the angry cat up and put it on his lap to let it finish his nap.
"so... who is him?" jeno raised a brow.
"he's no one." mark said quickly.
"sure. no one." jeno nodded. "seeing how you abruptly stopped this car when i mentioned his name, he surely is 'no one', mark. so, tell me. who the fuck is this donghyuck?"
at this question, the cat that was starting to fall asleep immediately jolted awake and looked at mark.
mark looked at the animal with a sheepish smile.
"don't try to look at that cat for some help!" jeno argued. "i want an answer."
"i promise i'll give you one. at home."
^.^
"what are you doing?" jeno asked, staring at mark who was looking around his room very carefully.
"looking for the cat."
"he's in the kitchen with nana and junnie." jeno said. "they were preparing his dinner."
"okay, good." mark said before sitting on his bed next to jeno.
after a few seconds of silence, mark spoke again.
"so... about this 'donghyuck' guy..."
"yeah." jeno said. "who is he?"
"well... i won't start by telling you who he is. because you don't know him. and you will never know him." mark explained, not daring to look at his friend.
"never?"
"it's impossible."
"why?"
"it's... complicated..." mark sighed, taking his head in his hands. "promise me you won't tell any of this to anyone?"
"i won't."
"not even jaemin?"
"not even jaemin."
mark took a deep breath. "i think i'm slowly moving on from hina." mark said.
"what?!" jeno exclaimed.
mark nodded and turned his head to look at jeno dead in the eye. "i'm falling for donghyuck."
