"Can I—"
"No."
You pouted childishly, staring at Bucky's portion of fresh, golden fries that he was so cruelly refusing to share with you.
"But I want some! And sharing is caring," you insisted.
"Y/N, Wanda asked if you wanted anything from McDonald's and you said you weren't hungry."
"That was before you sat next to me with your fries!" you argued, diving across the couch in an attempt to grab a handful of the delicious snack. Unfortunately, Bucky's reflexes were much too fast for you to compete with. He held the plate well out of your reach and smirked as you sat back, huffing in frustration.
You knew that, if you asked seriously, he would share his food with you in a heartbeat; it was plain to see that the super soldier had a soft spot for you. However, with both of you in a playful, teasing mood, the minor conflict definitely wouldn't be resolved that easily.
"Okay, doll. How about this," Bucky bargained, "I'll hide somewhere in the building. If you can find me within ten minutes, I'll give you all of my fries."
You considered for a moment, before nodding. Normally, ten minutes wouldn't be long enough to search through the entire tower, but you'd already come up with an easy strategy that would surely give you the upper hand.
Bucky grinned at you as he left the room; it was a cocky smirk, but the happiness in his eyes was enough to make you want to grab his hand, pull him towards you and kiss him.
The two of you were best friends, but sometimes you found yourself wondering if you could ever become something more than that. Of course, you could've just asked him about it, if you weren't so terrified of ruining everything and losing him – after all, having Bucky as a friend was far better than not having him at all.
After a few minutes, your phone pinged, ripping you out of your thoughts. It was a message from Bucky, telling you that your ten minutes had just started.
Without even moving from your seat, you dramatically cleared your throat. "F.R.I.D.AY, can you tell me where Bucky is right now?"
"I'm afraid Mr. Barnes has requested that I do not disclose his location."
Your eyes widened in disbelief; you definitely weren't expecting that. You weren't even aware that Bucky had figured out what F.R.I.D.A.Y was – when you first met him, he would glance around the room every time the artificial intelligence spoke, adorably confused.
Groaning, you stood up and began to briskly roam the corridors. To your dismay, Bucky was nowhere to be seen and, after checking every single room on that particular floor, you were rapidly running out of time.
Just as you were beginning to lose hope, you suddenly recalled a memory which served as a clue; once, when Bucky had suffered an especially distressing panic attack, you'd found him hiding on the roof, huddled in a corner where nobody was likely to spot him.
You darted towards the elevator, desperately bashing the button for the roof several times. The doors slid shut and, although the journey upwards lasted for no more than a minute, it felt like an eternity before you emerged. The cool breeze blew through your hair as you jogged over to the place where you hoped to see Bucky.
Sure enough, there he was, tucked away into that same corner. You squealed and punched the air in triumph, before stepping forward, ready to claim your prize.
It took you a few seconds to realise that Bucky was no longer holding the fries. You narrowed your eyes in suspicion, studying him sceptically.
"James... where are they?"
