[ 40's ]
You shifted uncomfortably in your chair, sighing. Your best friend had insisted that you should come on a night out with her, failing to mention that she would be bringing her boyfriend. As usual, the two of them went to dance, leaving you sitting at the bar by yourself. The joy of being a third wheel.
Suddenly, you felt a hand clamp down on your shoulder. To your left, you noticed that a red-faced, middle aged man had sat in the bar stool next to yours, and was now staring at you. You looked away quickly, hoping he would do the same, but no such luck. He leaned in close and whispered into your ear.
"Hello, darlin'. Gotta say, you look ravishing in that little dress. What's a pretty girl like you doing here all by herself, hm?"
You didn't reply and, to your dismay, the man wrapped his arm around you, squeezing tightly as he continued to speak. Panicking, you blocked him out and started looking around the room for anybody who might be able to help you.
Just as you were beginning to lose all hope, the creep abruptly stopped talking as he was roughly pulled away from you. You turned around to see that someone wearing an Army uniform was pushing the man towards the door, telling him that if he came back, he "wouldn't know what hit him." Even in your shocked state, you noticed that your rescuer was young, strong and extremely handsome, with brown hair and piercing blue eyes. You smiled gratefully as he walked back towards the bar, taking the newly vacated seat next to you.
"Hey, are you alright?" He seemed genuinely concerned.
"I'm fine, luckily," you replied. "Listen, thank you so much. I'd hate to think what would've happened if you didn't throw him out."
"It's nothing, I'm just glad you're okay. I'm Bucky, by the way. Bucky Barnes."
"Well, it's lovely to meet you, Bucky. I'm Y/N."
The two of you continued to talk and you were having so much fun, you gradually lost track of time. You and Bucky had a lot in common and, as well as being strikingly attractive, he was also funny and charming. At some point, your friend returned and asked if you were ready to go home, but you told her that you wanted to stay. Bucky blushed slightly when you said this, before reaching out and lightly intertwining your fingers with his.
As it was getting quite late, not many people were left in the bar and it was much quieter than before. A slow song began to play, and you glanced shyly at Bucky as he nervously cleared his throat.
"Would you like to dance, doll?"
You could only nod in response. Still holding your hand, he led you to the dance floor and gently placed his hands on your waist. Smiling, you leaned up slightly and wrapped your arms around his neck. You danced in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's presence.
When the song ended, neither of you wanted to leave. Bucky pulled you closer to him and smiled as you sighed happily, before moving his hand to tilt your chin up. You leaned into him and your eyes fluttered closed as your lips met his in a soft, slow kiss.
"Bucky... will I see you again?"
"How does tomorrow sound?"
