I still can't believe that I managed to rank first. It's been two weeks, and I'm still amazed.

I've been training to become a Dauntless leader, and I'm really determined to be chosen over Eric. Something's not right about him.

"Earth to Tris," I hear one of my two best friends, Shauna, say. She's waving a hand in front of my face.

"Sorry," I say quietly. "I must have spaced out.

"Thinking about him again?" Shauna asks with a slight smirk.

I sigh. I miss Tobias, but he's not what I was thinking about. "No," I reply. "Not this time at least. I'm thinking about my leadership training. I really want to stand out so that I can get picked over Eric."

"Tris, everyone knows that Max prefers you over Eric," she says exasperatedly. "You'll do fine."

I shake my head at her before looking around for my other best friend, Zeke.

"Where's Zeke?"

She looks down sadly. That's all I need to know. He's on another date.

"Want to do some target practice?" I ask. "Knives or guns, you choose."

This perks my friend up, and we head off to the training room. She chooses knives, so we spend hours having a little competition to see who has better aim.

"Why do you always beat me?" Shauna asks as we clean up the knives.

"Because I have better aim, plain and simple," I reply cheekily.

She gives me a gentle shove.

"Hey, do you have any pads?" she asks confusing me.

I give her a confused look.

"Ugh," she groans. "Stupid Abnegation."

She proceeds to explain what she means by pads.

"Oh, sanitary napkins," I say. I guess each faction has its own way of naming certain things.

I tell her that I don't, and I ask her about the reason they're needed. In Abnegation I got told the basics of that "the bleeding," would happen every month, but that's it, just how often that it would happen.

Shauna looks at me like I grew a second head before telling me exactly what it is and what it means.

"So, if it doesn't come, that's how women know they're pregnant?" I ask making sure that I understood correctly.

"Yeah," Shauna replies. "Why?"

I gulp thinking about what Tobias and I did before I chose. What we did after my aptitude test. "I haven't had mine since before Choosing Day."

Her eyes grow wide with shock before she practically drags me to the Pit. She walks with purpose toward a specific shop and takes me to the back. We buy a strange plastic stick and head to our apartment.

Shauna and I chose to share and apartment after initiation ended. We got lucky with a three bedroom one, so if anyone wants to stay over, most likely Zeke, there is a spare bedroom.

Once in the safety of our apartment, Shauna explains about the stick. She calls it a pregnancy test and tells me how to use it before sending me to the bathroom.

The wait seems like forever as I start to worry about what I will do if that comes out positive. Tobias has two more years until he'll get to choose. Two years that he won't get to know about the baby, if there is one.

I tell Shauna to look at it for me. I'm too scared to look myself. After I register the shock on her face, I stand up to look myself. There are unmistakably, two lines. Two lines means positive.
