(Night's POV)
"Night... Night..." A voice called to me. I open my eyes to see that I was in a very dark forest, filled with dead trees. This voice kept calling me. I head in the direction of it. After a few minutes of walking, I came across a burning house with a girl lying right in front of it. She was wearing a hoodie. Seeing this, I walk up to this girl and take her hood off. When I saw who it was, I was in shock:
"B... Brother ..." She whispered, dying, as she stretched her arm towards me. She was badly hurt and there was nothing I could do! As I looked up, I saw someone else approaching me:
"Cinder..." I growled before I drew my shotgun, loaded it and shot her. No bullets hurt her, as if she were some kind of ghost. The more she came at me, the more I backed off, until I hit the wall of the burning house. I raised my gun and aimed at Cinder, crosshairs pointing at her head. But the moment I pulled the trigger, my gun turned to ash. As I looked up, I came face to face with her, who was holding a dagger in her hand. She stares at me with a shifty look in her eyes before slamming me against the wall and putting the dagger to my throat.
And suddenly, nothing. I was back in my sleeping bag, in the ballroom, lit by the moonlight. My eyes were burning. As I ran a hand over one of my eyes, I realized I was crying. I sighed deeply.
"Emerald...I miss you..."
(At sunrise, Dragon's POV)
The first rays of the sun were starting to rise. As usual, I get up very early just to watch the sunrise. I sit up and stand up. As I looked around, I realized that Night was no longer there. I look around, but I couldn't find him. I finally get up and get dressed. I slowly push the door to the ballroom to avoid waking up other students. Once the door closed behind me, I looked to the right and saw Night, stuck to the wall, hands in his pockets.
"You're up very early I see." I said, drawing his attention to me. "Do you like watching the sunrise too?" I asked him, curious.
"It's not that, it's just that I couldn't sleep anymore." He replied to me. I sighed.
"Are you an insomniac?" I asked him.
"No." He answered me before sighing. "It's just my past, haunting me." He admits to me as he looks at the floor.
"Your past?" I asked intrigued. Night began to look at me.
"Nevermind, forget it" he said coldly to me, swinging his arm in my direction and looking at the ground. There was silence for about ten seconds before I decided to speak up.
"I heard you talking during the night." I said to him. His eyes widened. "Who is Emerald?" I asked him. Night let out a sigh
"Forget it, will you?" He asks me, crossing his arms.
"Look, I'm your friend, do you not trust me or what?" I asked him.
"This has nothing to do with trust, Dragon!" He said to me, raising his voice, still with his arms crossed and his gaze still pointed at the ground. "It's just... That it's complicated for me to talk about it..." He said to me in a weak tone with a sad look on his face. A silence settled down again, with as only sound, the breath of the fresh wind.
"Night. You're not the only one who's haunted by the past." I said to him, with a comforting air. "Resare is so haunted by hers, that she has developed a form of hatred towards humans." I said. Hearing this, Night remained unmoved. "I come from the same tribe as her, in Vacuo. The day she turned 11, that bastard Roman Torchwick razed our tribe and took all the dust that was there. She and I are the only two survivors." I admitted to him. This time, he raised his head and started to stare at me. "I know it's not easy to believe, coming from a guy you met the day before, but I swear it's the truth." I told him, in a friendly tone.
