Alec rolled over in his sleep and his hand landed in the empty space next to him. He opened his groggy eyes and found that his wife wasn't there.
"Rory?"
She poked her head out from the bathroom with a toothbrush in her mouth, "I'm here."
He sighed in relief but scrunched his brows when he saw her, "I'd say good morning but is it?"
She followed his eyes and looked down to see her arm. The end of her wrist was exposed to show the small bit of her charring arm. She waved it off, "Yeah, everything is great."
"Really?" he questioned, getting up from the bed, "Because this is like the fourth morning in a row that I've woken up to an empty bed."
"Maybe you should start waking up earlier," she joked, "Or I could just get used to your adorable little snores."
"Hey! I don't snore," he defended.
"If there's one thing I know for a fact, it's that you, Alexander Gideon Lightwood, do indeed snore."
He rolled his eyes as he lightly kissed her forehead. He briefly examined her arm for as long as she allowed him to stare.
"I know you well enough to know that something is going on with you. Is it your arm?"
"I promise you, I'm fine," she reassured, kissing him briefly, "What about you? Have you decided what we're gonna report to the Clave?"
He sighed, "I have no clue. If we don't tell the Clave about Luke's attempt on Valentine's life we'll be in violation. If they find out we could be deruned. When they asked for a report, I left Luke out of it."
"Whatever you decide, I'll stand by you."
She slipped on her jacket and winced as her arm went through the sleeve. He cupped her face, "Are you sure you're okay?"
She rolled her eyes, "Alec...for the last time, I'm completely okay."
"But-"
"Ask me again and it'll be five days in a row you wake up alone."
He sighed and nodded. He picked up his shirt and slid it on. While he was getting dressed, she laced her boots up and waited for him. When they were both dressed, they kissed each other their routine good morning and made their way out to the ops center.
Once everyone was there, Alec began the briefing, "I requested that we transfer Valentine to the Gard in Idris. The Clave has approved."
"Did you tell them about the assassination attempt?" Jace asked.
"No," Rory groaned, "We told them that moving Valentine out of the city would help repair relations with the downworld. We left Luke out of it."
"But we haven't given up investigating who ordered the hit on Valentine," Alec added.
"I may have a few leads on that," Sebastian stated, "I'll give you a report on it by the end of the day."
They nodded and Sebastian left them. When he was turning away, his sleeve slid up a little and revealed some scars on his hand. Rory scrunched her face in suspicion.
Alec turned to his sister, "Izzy, you'll be handling the transfer mission with Jace to assist."
Izzy smiled, "We need to remove Valentine's circle rune. The new wards in Idris won't let him pass with it on. Do you want the honors, Jace?"
"I thought you'd never ask."
Izzy left them and Rory turned away to give Alec and Jace privacy. It was normal for them to have some sort of parabatai talk before missions.
