It was December 31st, everyone was getting ready to receive a new year. It was the time of year when families came together more than ever to say goodbye to one stage of their lives to start another, for some the New Year meant an opportunity to start again, to take a new step, to heal, new plans, new goals... tonight was special, and it was no different for the Andersson family.
Benny was sitting on his bed trying to tie the tie that his mother had given him at Christmas, but it seemed rather that he was fighting against it. Tonight it was supposed to be special. He had a lot to be thankful for, firstly he had regained mobility in his legs, and although he still needed the walker he could stand up and walk, secondly he had Frida with him, everything had happened too quickly between them but still Benny knew that she was the love of his life and that their destiny was to be together forever, and last but not least was his future child, sometimes he couldn't believe that the woman he loved the most was carrying his baby, he always had the idea of being a father but never thought it was at that moment in his life.
Finally Benny was able to tie his tie and stood up to see his reflection in the mirror. He wore a royal blue suit, with the same color tie, white shirt and loafers, his hair perfectly combed, he looked with bearing and class. Maybe looked too formal but tonight he deserved it. He opened the drawer of his nightstand and took the small red velvet box, opened it and smiled at the contents, that night would be his night.
"Benny? I'm here," Frida's voice broke the silence of his house. Benny quickly put the small box inside his bag since she couldn't see it. To his regret, they didn't yet live together, at least not formally. After Benny's operation, Frida stayed at home with him to sleep, on more than one occasion he had tried to persuade her to move in with him but she always brought up another topic of conversation instantly. Maybe she wanted him to move into her house, anyway she didn't seem like she wanted to talk about it. That night she had come to her house to prepare for the New Year's Eve, it was around eight at night and apparently she was ready.
"Right here, in the room," Benny replied, raising his voice a little so she could hear him perfectly.
"Oh, hi," Frida walked through the door looking perfectly Divine. She wore a loose beige dress that reached above the knees with long sleeves and a v-neckline, her hair loose in waves and a makeup that highlighted her delicate features perfectly. The dress concealed her small three-month belly.
Benny smiled when he saw her and walked over to her, "You look gorgeous," he said and gave her a sweet kiss on the lips.
Frida put her hand on his cheek and enjoyed the sweet touch, "Thank you love, you look pretty handsome as well."
"Are you sure you can walk in those heels?" He asked, analyzing Frida's outfit.
"Don't you like them?" She asked back with a frown.
"It's not that I don't like them darling, but you're pregnant, aren't they uncomfortable?"
"No, of course not, I have seen many pregnant women in heels, I will be fine," she said and gave him another quick kiss, he was too considerate and cared about her at all times, which made Frida feel loved. "Where's your walker?"
"In the living room,"
"Benny, you can't abuse your condition, you have to use the walker," Frida chided him gently.
"I'm fine, I can handle it," he said nonchalantly.
"Just a month ago you had your operation and you're still going to therapy, the doctor said you had to use the walker as long as possible." Frida said trying to make him see reason.
"But this is a special night, I want to feel a little freer tonight, I'll be fine," he repeated.
"Then you will have back pain and feel tired," she crossed her arms.
