Winter air has always been one of my favourite things. I'm not really sure why but I just love the rush and the pain that comes with breathing cold air.
And it is because of my love for this kind of pain I am sitting outside in the cold on the porch. That and sleeping on a hardwood floor isn't a good place to sleep. Especially with someone else sleeping on top of you.
I leaned my head back against the supporting beam of the porch closed my eyes and just relaxed.
" It's quite cold out here." Ava said from behind me.
" I like the cold." I mumbled.
" That's weird." She laughed.
Wrapping the blanket tighter around herself she sat beside me and I pulled her closer.
" Did you sleep okay?" I asked, kissing her forehead.
" Yeah, but waking up by myself did suck."
" Sorry about that, it's just......I was....well-"
"Uncomfortable." She chuckled.
" Yeah." I scoffed.
" Yeah, we really need a bed."
" Among other things."
" Okay, so that is today's mission. We have our house now let's make it our home." She smiled, twisting my hair between her fingers.
Hand in hand we walked back to the town. The blanket of snow hugging the ground crunched under our boots.
Halin sneezed at every snowflake that dropped onto his now extremely wet nose.
" I hate this snow." He barked.
" We gave you the option to stay at the house but you decided to come with us. Therefore you don't get to complain about the weather."
"Touche."
" I really wish I could understand what he tells you." Ava sighed as she snuggled closer against me.
" Trust me you are not missing anything special." I chuckled.
" That's just mean." Halin howled.
" Whatever."
" Okay we are near the market please do not talk to the dog and make us look like crazy people." Ava said.
" Mam yes, mam." I smirked.
" Knock it off." She snapped.
" I am sorry my love." I smiled giving her a quick kiss on her delicious and captivating lips.
Despite the intense cold the market was packed to the brim.
This market isn't like the one at Hawthorn, it's bigger and has far more to over since Hope is bigger than Hawthorn.
As we walked between the stalls a few people turned and stared at us. Thankfully they are only looking out of curiosity and not something else. Unlike the sailors we traveled with nobody here seems to sense what I am. But then again sailors have always had something about them that makes them different from the vast majority of people.
" Where exactly are these amazing things you saw yesterday?" I asked.
"We will get there but we have to hire a cart to help us take the stuff back first." Ava said.
We managed to get the last large cart and a strong stallion and a boy to help us.
We went to store after store after store buying everything Ana had seen the previous day. After over two hours of mind-numbing shopping in the cold, we got everything we needed and started our trip home.
" So where are you guys from?" The boy asked breaking the awkward silence that was going on.
" Hawthorn." I said.
" Never heard of it." He scoffed.
And just like that silence took over once again.
When we reached the house the boy stopped dead in his tracks his mouth contracted into a large O shape.
" Holy shit you guys really fixed this place up." He gasped.
" Yeah, Tobias is a quick worker." Ava chuckled.
" Yeah, I can see that," He mumbled," So just to let you guys know if you want me to help it will cost you extra."
" I will be fine on my own and I'll return the cart when I'm done." I said.
" Great, bye." He sighed with relief and then he ran away.
" Well okay." I laughed as I watched the boy disappear into the distance.
" Doesn't want to stand in the cold I guess." Ava laughed.
" I wouldn't either."
" We should get started while the sun is slightly shining."
" Let's do this." I smiled.
Hour by hour, room by room our cold and empty house became a living and warm home.
" It's beautiful." Ava smiled as she gazed out at our bedroom which was the last room we did.
" It certainly is."
We decided on a pale blue theme for our bedroom. So the rug beneath the queen size bed is pale blue and the blanket and pillow covers are blue. On each side of the bed, there are freshly polished wooden tables. Ava wanted a dressing table so of course, we got a dressing table with an accompanying mirror.
" I'm gonna go return the cart."
I gave her a quick kiss on her forehead before I rushed out of the house.
The cold has gotten exceptionally worse and a strong gush of wind had picked up snapping against my body. Not even my fur coat is enough protection.
I ran the horse as fast as I could and I reached the shop quickly. And then I raced home.
As I walked through the door I was surprised to find Ava waiting for me in the living room.
A roaring fire was crackling in the fireplace. A checkered red and white blanket is laying on the floor in front of the fire. Ava is wearing a long-sleeved red dress and did her hair up in a tight bun.
" What's going on here?" I asked.
" Come take a seat." She smiled patting the empty seat next to her.
" What's happening?" I asked again taking a seat beside her.
The warmth of the fire instantly warmed me up.
" I just thought we should celebrate our masterpiece." She smiled taking out a bottle of wine and two wine glasses.
" Pour me a glass." I chuckled.
Giggling she popped the cork and poured us each a glass.
" To our home." I smiled raising my glass.
" To us."
Before we could even finish our first glass we were laying down making out.
As much as I want to take this further I'm not sure if Ava is ready.
I nestled my head against her neck planting wet kisses near her earlobe making her moan even louder.
" Tobias I'm ready." She moaned.
" What?" I am surprised by her statement. It's like she read my mind.
" I'm not sure about you but I'm ready to take the next step."
Her words filled me with passion. I scooped her up into my arms and ran up to the bedroom.
This will certainly be a night to remember.
