Anne got out of the shower her hair dripping wet. She then of course slipped on the wet floor, groaning in annoyance.

"What to wear... what to wear.....", she muttered as she rummaged through her belongings.  Anne really didn't own much clothes. Marilla and Mathew had never really taken her shopping before, and Anne was always to shy to ask for clothes, knowing they didn't have that much money.

Anne decided on this really baggy and old sweatshirt that she had grown to love has a comfort, and a pair of jeans. She then did her normal style of wearing her hair in two separate braids and tieing the ends with ribbon to add an extra touch.

Anne sighed as she stared at herself, resenting how ugly she was. She would do anything to get rid of her horrid freckles and red hair. Not to mention how deathly pale she always looked. Would anyone really want to be friends with someone has homely has her?

Anne took deep breathes as she continued to stared at her reflection. She felt a single tear drip down her left cheek. What would her parent's have said on her first day of school? Anne pushed those thoughts away. She couldn't let those thoughts distract her from such a big milestone in her life. Anne had never gone to school before this, and she was deathly excited and afraid.

"You can do this!", Anne whispered to herself ,her voice cracking a little. Anne crossed her fingers. All she wanted was for the other students and teachers to like her.

"Anne, Breakfast!" Marilla called from downstairs. Anne forced herself to smile, giving her reflection a reassuring thumbs up. She then grabbed her backpack throwing in her books and a couple of pens in.

"oooo that's looks absolutely scrumptious Marilla!" Anne said. At Anne's place was a stack of waffles topped with strawberries,  whipped cream and maple syrup. Anne felt her mouth watering.

"Well don't just stand there, go and eat!", Marilla said. Anne didn't need to be asked twice, and soon her mouth was full of deliciousness. "You should become a chief Marilla!", Anne said her mouth full.

"Oh, don't flatter me.", Marilla said taking a sip of coffee. She paused for moment watching Anne eat. "Are you sure.. you um want to go today? Maybe your not ready- "

Anne took Marilla's hand squeezing it from across the table.

"I'm fine Marilla! Really, I'm excited! I'm ready! I've always dreamed of going to high school!"

Marilla sighed. "I guess your right. But, tell me if anything goes wrong or if you have regrets, because I'll-

"Nothing is going to go wrong.", Anne said half trying to convince herself.

Marilla nodded looking like she wanted to say something more, but instead turned to look outside.

"Where's Mathew?", Anne asked,  wanting to end the awkward silence.

"Milking the cows", Marilla replied. "It seems he is right back in the routine of being a farmer."

Both she and Anne laughed at this. Mathew never should have gone into business. He was to shy and nearly had a heart attack every time he had to talk to a client. Working with animals was much more up his alley.

As if he had been summoned Mathew came in with two buckets of milk a huge grin on his face, wich made Anne beam.

"Big day, today, huh?" Mathew said setting the buckets down on the counter.

"Biggest", Anne agreed, nodding.

"Listen Anne", Mathew said very quietly that Anne had to strain to hear him. " uh, I'm not the best at talking.....but um don't let the other kids at school um change you. .......for anything. I um....... what I guess I am, um saying is..... to be yourself?"
