Prologue

I stepped up to the camera that was about to broadcast my face across the nation and took a deep breath. My hands trembled as I held the letter that read her life altering words. A tear rolled down my face. I had to keep it together and finish what we started, even though every inch of me down to my core felt sick. My family, that was now missing a very important piece stood behind me, and before we were ready the camera clicked on. 3, 2, 1, the screen counted down and then a red button flashed on. I cleared my throat and read her letter with confidence. There was no turning back now.

"Hi, I am here speaking to you all today to set you free with the truth. Once I do this my life will forever change and yours will too. It will be changed for the better overall, though it may not always feel like that. This is going to take some adapting to. You may feel betrayed, angry, or relieved when you hear this news. It all depends on your circumstances during this tumultuous time, but I warn you not to let your feelings get the best of you. Right now more than ever we need to come together, unified for one purpose.
     "Trust me, I learned the hard way that we need people, we need connection. You will want to return to normal, but we can't, not anymore because there is no such thing as normal. I'm just as scared as you all must be as you wait for me tirelessly to get to the point. It's difficult for me to write this truth because I know when I'm done I will have to go say goodbye to my normal forever and so will you."

"So yes I'm stalling, but only because I can't bear to look them in the eye and say goodbye; but we all must face our new normal every day, so let's do this now. Let's face it together. I may not be there to read this letter aloud to you all in person if what I suspect will happen does, but I promise to leave this letter in good hands. This letter is probably being read to you by a very witty little girl who holds a special place in my heart, or a young boy who can find light in any situation, maybe a ruthless girl who speaks with utter confidence, or maybe, just maybe your life is being changed by a natural born survivalist who uses sarcasm too often and isn't too bad to look at either. But whoever delivers you this news, I promise you they are just the people I would want to walk into this new era of the unmasked with....
