At Police Headquarters
The door to the dark room opens and Gerald lifts his head in expectation for the visitor. His face lit up seeing his fiancee along with her lawyer friend.
"Gerald, are you okay?" He assures Laura that he is doing fine.
"Pardon Mr Mckawney. It took a day for the legal papers to be processed. Hope you did not have trouble spending a night in this cell."
"It was fine. I mean...I was given the necessities which a normal man should have."
"Where is he Gerald, Detective James Schilberd? And how dare he ill-treat you?" Laura was fuming in anger. The lawyer tried to calm her telling that mere impulsive movements can lead to further trouble. He advised her to do the negotiations in a proper way.
"Are you sure Mr. Mckawney that you have no hands in this case?" the lawyer enquires.
"I swear, I don't! I despised Mr. Peter Cart, but it doesn't mean that I would go to the extend in killing him."
"Fine. Since the evidences against you are not strong enough, I believe that you can be bailed out."
"Sure. We will find some way to get him out of here. Come lawyer, let's meet that Detective." Laura hugs Gerald, "I will be right back."
As soon as Laura and the lawyer left the room, they were greeted by Detective James and Bob at the passage.
"Hi miss Laura, good morning."
"You seriously think my morning will be good when my man is under your custody?" Laura asks folding her hands. Detective just smiled at her.
"This is my lawyer. He has come to bail out Gerald."
"Fine. I don't intend to put him behind the bars anyways."
"Then why the hell did you get him arrested?"
"Because he was a prime suspect."
"On what grounds could you suspect him? Only on those CCTV visuals and the cross?
"Correct." The expression on Laura's face changed, as if she wanted to hit the man standing in front of her. The lawyer interfered just in time asking Detective,
"Let me ask you, why are you leaving him now? I am afraid you will have to face law for arresting and detaining a man for a day just to clarify your suspicions."
"I dont mind facing law because I truly know how to solve my case. Then why I am letting him go? Because he isn't the one I am looking for."
The lawyer looks at the detective, then turning his glance to Laura who was staring at the detective confused.
"What do you mean?" she asks, still not letting go of her pride. The Detective takes a file from his assistant and showed it to them.
"On the basis of this. The forensic results on blood samples of neither Gerald's nor anyone of your family matches with what I am supposedly to find."
"Wait! You said anyone of our family? Like when did we give our samples to you?"
"Ah...sorry about that. I had to indirectly approach your family doctor." He winks at her.
"Don't you think you have gone overboard?" Laura asks sternly.
"Maybe. But, as I said before, I do have my ways. If I have grieved you, file a complaint. And...it doesn't mean I am going to stop here. This case is closely related to the Snowdown household."
"Bullshit! How is this related to us?"
"Then tell me, how can a huge sum of money be transferred from Blackwill company account to Peter's personal account?"
"What? The source of the money...was from Blackwill Franchise?"
"Indeed. And it wasn't just a small amount. A sum of fifty lakhs has been credited. Don't you find it strange Miss Laura?"
With this Detective James and his assistant moves to their office. Suddenly Laura shouts from their behind, "You are not going away with it if you dare to destroy my business, Detective!"
Detective James stops in his tracks. He turns around and says calmly, "I am not going and I won't let anyone go. This is just the beginning."
