Chapter 14

The next day the whole Snowdown inmates were called to the police headquarters. Miss Laura, her relatives, Gerald and all other officials of the police department have gathered in the official meeting hall. Apart from the officials, other faces carried tensed and annoyed expressions.

Everything has been well arranged by Bob and Detective James enters the meeting hall. After officially greeting his superiors, he started to narrate the events of the case along with the slide presentation. 

"These are the basic facts of the case, what's the point in calling everyone for this meeting?" One of the officials ask.

"I am coming to it, sir. As you have seen, Peter Cart was a close associate of Snowdown household. Therefore his murder is closely related to them."

"Detective, I have been hearing this for long. Just being someone hired by my dad doesn't mean we are involved in his killing." Laura retorts.

"Calm down Miss Laura Snowdown. I have called everyone to prove my instincts."

"Then go ahead! Show me the damn proof you have got."

Detective shows a recording on the projector screen where Steve is seen giving a package to the lady inside the car. He also plays the recording of his statement. Laura glances at Aunt Sara sternly. 

Detective James calls in Betcy Pots to the room. Upon seeing her, Laura went shocked. 

"The lady inside the car was none other than Betcy Pots." Detective James continues, "Miss Betcy Pots, she is the accountant of Blackwill Franchise.Two months ago, a large sum of money, fifty lakhs, was transferred to Cart's personal account. The transaction had been carried out by Betcy but under someone's instructions."

"Whose?" Laura asks.

"Bob, bring him in." Bob directs his police subordinate with a gesture. After some time, the door opened to reveal a firm figure and the whole Snowdown family gasped.

"Uncle Robert?" Laura seemed perplexed.

"Sir, this is Dr. Robert Krate. We suspect he was the one behind the murder."

"No sir, I do not have an idea what they are talking of. I was away from my home for a meeting and yesterday I received a call from Steve telling me, my wife...she was admitted in the hospital and was critically ill. I reached the hospital as early as possible... But I was taken into custody by them. I swear I do not have any connection in this case." Robert pleaded to the higher ranked officers in the room.

"Betcy, narrate them everything what you have told me." Detective tells her.

Betcy moves forward. She was tensed as she could not face Laura. 

"I am working as the accountant of Blackwill Franchise. Two months back, Robert had asked me to transfer a sum of fifty lakhs to Mr Cart's account. When I asked him, he said it was more like a pension fund since Peter Cart was retiring from our company." 

"Then when and how did you start borrowing money from Sara through Steve? What's your relationship with Doctor Robert?" Detective asks her.

Betcy was reluctant to answer his question. She glanced at Robert and then at Sara. She was unable to speak as if something withheld her.

"I repeat: What is your relationship with Mr. Krate?" The Detective landed.

Having no other option, Betcy started to tell the events the shook all, including Mrs. Sara Krate!!
