TW: Self-deprecation, a little violence from Remus
Roman's POV
I left the imagination that day feeling quite exhausted from reenacting the wonderful Disney movie, Aladdin, casting myself as the prince, of course. I was inspired that morning by Patton's act of generosity and quickly realized soon after I was finished that I had forgotten to thank him for the wonderful breakfast he prepared.
So I ran to his room and knocked on his door.
"Patton? Are you there?" No answer came. No problem. I assumed he was out doing chores somewhere. So I ran downstairs and continued to call. "Patton?" Nothing came at first. But then a moment later he came running down the hallway, quite out of breath, his glasses slightly crooked.
"Yes, Roman?" He asked rather uncharacteristically.
"I realized I forgot to thank you for the wonderful breakfast this morning. So, thank you." I said. He smiled.
"Um...no problem...Ro...anything for you!" He said running back down the hallway. He was acting rather strange, but I brushed it off considering he was probably extremely busy.
I brushed it off then.
But not at dinner that night.
We were at the table all waiting for Patton. Logan was still reading his book that he almost never put down unless he was working, and Virgil was biting his nails like he always did when he was anxious.
I rolled my eyes when Virgil didn't stop for over five minutes and asked him, "Somethin' bothering you, Virge?" He looked up at me uncertainly and set his hand down on the table, his nails mostly all oddly shaped now due to his nervous chewing."Where's Patton?" He said finally. "He's never late to dinner."
I shrugged. "Oh, come on. Everyone gets caught off guard every once in a while. Plus, he seemed really busy this morning when I saw him." Virgil nodded, still not completely believing me. I sighed.Another ten minutes passed.
Then I glanced over at Virgil, really worried now. He looked back at me with the same look. Even Logan had closed his book by now and was occasionally glancing up to Patton's room wondering what was keeping him.
Almost simultaneously, we all stood up to go check on him, Virgil running a little faster than Logan and I.
Upon arriving at Patton's door, Virgil knocked quietly. Patton cleared his throat and stated cheerfully,
"Come in!" We opened the door and slowly walked into the room. Patton smiled. "Well, what a surprise! All of my closest friends here to visit me together! What's up?" He asked. We all stood there in silence for a moment. Did he just not know what time it was? Or did he really forget...
Logan was the first to speak up. "Well...what's been keeping you Patton?"
Patton tilted his head in confusion. "What do you mean, kiddo?" He asked. Logan glanced at Virgil and I in confusion and continued,
"Well...you're usually always right on time for dinner..."
Virgil swallowed nervously. "We've been waiting for you..." he stated.Patton looked at his digital clock and face palmed. "Is it that time already?" He asked. "Well, shoot. What're we having?" At this point every one of us was extremely worried. We stared at Patton blankly until he nodded. "Oh, I was supposed to cook, wasssn't I?" He asked. The way he held out the 's' in 'wasn't' was suspicious...
"Well," It was almost like... "I'll get right on that." Deceit.I immediately tackled him to the ground earning a protest from no one except Deceit.
"What're you doin—"
"WHERE'S PATTON?!" I screamed at him.
"What? Now, hold on, kiddo..."
"CUT THE CRAP, DECEIT, WHERE IS HE?!"
"Virgil, Logan, a little help?" He asked receiving no answer as the other two both stared at him in disgust.Deceit sighed and asked, "What gave me away?" Just before smiling his evil smile that Patton would never use.
"ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!" I screamed again. We waited a moment before Deceit sighed. He then held out his hands for us all to see and snapped making his yellow plastic gloves appear. Whatever he said now would be a lie. He cleared his throat before stating,
"I have absolutely no idea." And transforming into a snake to slither away.———————
Patton's POV:
I was so hungry. They weren't planning on leaving me here to starve...were they? I had been worrying about this for quite some time before Remus entered the warm room with a plate of salad with barely any dressing. Not that I was complaining. Food was food.
He had to feed me because of the current position of my hands. The plate was almost gone when he began to tease me.
"Here comes the airplane!" He stated as he made airplane noises. I ignored it at first. Then a few bites later, he went, "Choo, Choo!"
I tilted my head at him in confusion. "That's a train, Remus." I stated. He raised his eyebrows. "Very good, Patton! You're learning!" He mocked. When I didn't open my mouth due to him mocking me, he poked at my lips with the fork.
When that didn't work, he sighed. "Eat up, Pops. I don't have all day." He said, obviously annoyed. I shrugged.
"Maybe when you stop treating me like a child." Remus took a step back and laughed, placing the plate of salad on the table a few feet away.
"Sorry, Pat. I forgot, you're a big boy now." He said.
He turned and grabbed some of the cookies on the dresser making my mouth water. I never got my morning cookies...Remus saw my face and laughed. He continues to mock me. "Nuh, uh. Cookies after dinner." I rolled my eyes, fed up with this.
A moment of awkward silence passed before I asked out of plain curiosity, "Just wondering, why did you pick salad?" Remus looked at me raising a brow.
"Are you complaining?" He asked.
"N-No..." I replied feeling slightly guilty. "Just wondering. I haven't had salad in a pretty long time."Remus began laughing hysterically, dropping his cookie and having to clutch his stomach.
"Wh-What?" I asked, not knowing what was so funny.
"That..." Remus started having to stop due to his laughing. "That...makes a lot of sense."I squinted in confusion. "What do you mean?"
He looked down at me. "I mean, look at yourself, Patton. It's no surprise you haven't eaten salad in so long."I looked down at my stomach that was slightly bulging out due to my slouched position. I sat up straight to remove this bulge. I never considered the thought that I could be fat before...but...maybe Remus was right.
"You...you think I'm fat?...Remus?" He looked at me like I was the dumbest person he knew.
"Well, you're not exactly slim and trim, Padre."I felt my heart sink as I thought about it. He was right. Roman, Logan, and Virgil were all significantly thinner than me. I doubted any of them had to deal with that insecurity...
Remus finished his cookies and was just about to leave when I furrowed my brow in confusion.
"Where are you going?" I asked tilting my head towards the unfinished salad. He laughed.
"Big boys can feed themselves." He said as he opened the door.Just as he opened it, Deceit ran to the door frame and stood there, panting.
"They don't know!" He said, facepalming and pulling off his gloves. He tried again. "They know!" Remus sighed while I just laughed. They both turned to face me, scowling.
"I told you. You'll never get away with this." Remus walked up to me slowly. I tried not to lose my brave face, but he looked very intimidating. It was completely unexpected when he delivered a very painful slap to my face causing me to cry out in pain, losing my brave face. He bent down to my level, more comfortable now that I was scared again.
"You really don't know what I'm capable of, do you?" He asked. I gulped in fear and confusion. But mostly fear. Then they both left without another word, leaving me to wonder two things.
One) How long was I going to be trapped here...
And Two) How was I going to finish my salad???
