'So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me'

it was already pretty late when we got back to the chateau with a new mystery for the pogues. It felt like we were the mystery gang from scooby-doo with our mystery machine, the Twinkie. our new mystery being what was in the package in the Redfield tomb.

I thudded down on the chair across from John B not being able to feel my legs from all the walking this morning and the running from whoever it was in the graveyard.

'that bread had mold on it three days ago' I heard Pope say as JJ spread peanut butter and jelly onto the green bread.

'I'll just pull off the bad parts' JJ spoke 'plus, mould is good for you, it's just a natural organism'

'it's also disgusting' I yelled through to the kitchen.

'I wasn't offering you any princess' he teased back.

John B sat on the table examining the package with the words 'For Bird' written on it, pulling the tab across. JJ taking a bite of his mold sandwich, gagging almost instantly. my eyes rolling to the back of my head in disgust.

'told you so' I muttered

John b laid the map he retrieved from the package on the top with marking all over and coordinates highlighted

'holy shit' he spoke.

'X marks the spot' pope said pointing to the x on the map.

'longitude, latitude' John B continued 'wait, there's somethin' else in there' reaching into the package again to retrieve a small tape recorder with a tape inside.

'what's that?' JJ questioned; I held my head in my hands once again

'it's a tape recorder, dumbass' Kie snapped.

A small beep escaped the device with a Big John' voice following

'Dear Bird'

'who's bird?' JJ questioned again

'it's what my dad called me' John b replied

the voice began again 'I hate to say, 'I told you And you doubted your old man, I suspect at this moment, you're filled with guilt and self-loathing over our last fight, but don't kill yourself just yet, kid. I didn't expect to find the Merchant either. You were probably right to call me out. Wasn't exactly Father of the Decade. What can I say, kid? I could smell the barn. And hopefully, we're listenin' to this in our brand new sugar-shack down in Costa Rica, livin' off passive investments and pulling on permits. If not, and you find this for less than optimal reasons, well, that's what the map is for. There she is, the wreck of the Merchant.'

'If somethin' happens to me, finish what I started. Go for the gold, kid. I love you, Bird, even if I didn't always act like it. I'll see you on the other side. ' a single tear fell from John B's eye, silently forming into a sob as he got up and walked across the room clutching the door for safety.

'holy shit, he did it!' JJ almost shouted 'Big John..He found the merchant'

'Can you please?' I said giving him a disapproving look, John b silently sobbed behind me, kie walking over wrapping her arm around him for comfort.

the soft strumming of the ukulele was the perfect sound as we sat on the dock similar to how we did when I came home. the distant thunder rumbling was like the melody of the song with Kie's Ukulele strumming being the lyrics. it was peaceful and soothing.
