TWO MONTHS LATER
As Jayson made a grab for the ball, he slipped and fell sideways, tackling Cris and Dan and bringing them down to the ground with him. Rhap called for a halt in practice. Fifth time in the past hour.
“Jayson, what is wrong with you?”
Jayson took a deep breath before standing up and reaching down to help Cris up. “Nothing.”
“We know it’s not nothing. It’s like the semi-finals all over again.” Myk muttered, clearly annoyed at Jayson.
Rhap and Jayson glared at Myk long and hard. Myk backed off and raised his hands in mock surrender. Their team captain turned to their star player. “Look, Jay. Get your problem with Michi solved -”
“When I have a problem, do you immediately blame it on -”
“Oh, hush!” Rhap held a hand. “I will not be having you interrupting practice every ten minutes. Meanwhile, bench.”
Jayson rolled his eyes and cussed silently. He dragged himself to the bench and grabbed a bottle of water. He poured half the contents on his face, shaking the water off after. His mind is blank. It usually is when problems like this arise. Well, it wasn’t always like this. Heck, he never had to face this kind of problem until two months ago. God, the things that Michi does to him..
It’s been two days since their last conversation. It was the longest they haven’t seen or heard from each other. Michi was preparing for her exam, that was understandable. But it’s been two fucking days! She’s not answering his calls and not even a single message.
So he went over to her place yesterday, and guess who he found coming out of her house at 9 in the evening? Perfect Drake. He didn’t bother to stay a moment longer, he turned on his heels and walked away.
And now the situation was ruining his game. Luckily, thirty minutes later, Rhap let him back on practice. He recovered himself a bit. He was going for a dunk when his peripheral vision caught someone familiar coming in by the door. So, bam. Down he went with Myk.
“Seriously, Jay!” Myk groaned in frustration.
But Jayson wasn’t listening, he was looking straight at Michi’s perfection as she made her way inside the court. One of his teammates came to greet her. Before her eyes could even search for him, she was distracted by his teammates. They fussed over her and it irked him.
Myk followed his line of sight and grimaced. Rhap sighed heavily and pulled Jay up.
“Hey.. Cap,” he never once looked away from Michi. “Can I leave practice early?”
Rhap followed his eyes, assessing the situation. “No.”
Myk and Jay looked at him simultaneously.
“You’re on cleaning duty. You can’t leave. And since you’ve been screwing up the whole afternoon, you’re gonna have to clean up alone.”
“Woah, really? So I’m free to go later?” Myk grinned at the thought of escaping cleaning duty.
“What? Are you serious?”
Rhap shrugged. Myk grinned.
“Look on the bright side, Jay. You’re gonna be alone.”

Michi stood by the door, watching Jayson mop the last dirt off the court. He hasn’t said a word to her ever since she arrived. She quietly walked up behind him, back hugging him tight. She felt Jay stiffen. They stayed like that for a few heartbeats, Jay didn’t even bother to move nor say a single word. Mitch groaned in frustration. She hates it when she’s done something wrong and she doesn’t even know it.
She buried her face in his shirt, sweat and water meeting her cheeks. “Jay.. say something. Are you mad at me?”
Jayson removed her hands around him. Her heartbeat stopped for a second, panic rising up in her gut. That sensation of utter shock would have lasted longer if she hadn’t suddenly found herself wrapped in Jayson’s arms. He kissed her forehead, each of her eyebrows, her nose, and then her chin, skipping her lips on purpose.
“Why didn’t you answer my calls the past two days?” He kissed her right cheek, his breath hot on her skin.
“Lost my phone. Didn’t realize until yesterday.” Ah, so that’s what’s going on. “Which explains why I’m here..” She tried to escape him, Jayson held her fast, stopping her attempt.
“I went to your house yesterday,” he hesitated. “What were you doing with Drake?”
Michi scoffed. “He’s my brother. He –”
It took a moment for Michi to process their conversation. Her eyeballs bulged and she couldn’t help herself, she laughed. Jayson flushed, taken aback by her reaction.
“This isn’t funny.”
Michi reached up and pulled Jayson down. She kissed him softly and quickly on the lips. “I know it isn’t but you are.”
Jayson held her hand and bent down to kiss her, slowly, deeply. She smiled into the kiss and snaked her arms around his shoulders. Jay groaned and stopped. He gave her a sweet kiss on the forehead and released her. Michi frowned and reached for him.
“Nooo, where are you going?”
“Escaping before I lose control with you.”
Michi blinked. Jayson flushed at his little slip.
Oh, the things Michi does to him.
