I'm sitting there with her fragile body in my arms and can't help feeling bad for not noticing the signs sooner. We sit there, hugging each other for what feels like forever. After about 5 minutes, we go inside.
"Eva?"
"Yeah?"
"Stay with us tonight."
"What?" She looks at me, confusion clear on her face.
"You heard me, stay with us tonight. We have an extra room for guests and I don't want you going back to your parents' house." She looks at me reluctantly.
"I don't know Ace. What if they try coming and looking for me, or call the police to come find me?"
"Crap. I didn't think about that. Well, either way we have proof that you are being beaten and all we have to do is show it to the cops and I know they won't make you go back if they see that." I see hope cross her features and she gives me a smile.
"You're the best Ace!" She flings herself into my embrace and I'm caught off guard for a second before I finally hug back.
After we let go of each other, I tell her to sit down on the couch and make herself at home. I walk into the kitchen where my mom's at.
"I told Eva she could stay with us and stay in the guest room. Before you say anything though, her parents beat her and I don't want her doing back there." My mom looks at me with happiness filling her eyes.
"I'm so glad to see you caring and letting someone in besides just Nate, Ace. She changing you for the better and I'm really happy to see you caring again. She can stay as long as she wants." My face lights up at her words and she smiles at me.
"Thanks Mom!" I give her a hug and go back to the living room.
"Hey Eva."
"Hey Ace. I've been thinking about it, and what am I supposed to do for clothes?" She looks at me questioningly.
"Well dang, I hadn't thought about that."
"Well I need clothes Ace."
"You can borrow mine!" I say all too quickly and she looks at me confused.
"What about underwear?" She raises her eye brows up at me. I sigh in frustration.
"We'll go buy some. But you are not going back to that house." She smiles really big at me and I smirk back at her. God is she beautiful.
"Thanks for caring Ace."
"Anytime." I smile at her and we head to the store. She gets her stuff and we go back home.
"I'm doing do take a shower. Where is it at by the way?"
"Up the stairs, the first door you see, we labeled the outsides of every door, so it shouldn't be hard to find it." I chuckle a little and so does she. She starts going up the stairs but stops after going up two of them.
"Wait! I need clothes!"
"Oh, right. Come with me to my room and I'll give you some. Towels are already in the bathroom."
"Thanks for everything Ace."
"Seriously, it's no problem." She smiles at me and I smile back.
We begin walking up the stairs and to my room. I hand her a t-shirt and she says not to worry about shorts because the t-shirt is plenty long enough.
Fifteen minutes later, I hear a knock on my door. When I open it, I see Eva standing in the hallway.
"Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering where I could find a hair dryer?"
"You're not bothering me. My mom has one, you should go ask her to borrow it."
"Thanks!" She gives me a huge smile and leave. She goes down stairs where my parent's room is.
Five minutes later, I hear her coming back up the stairs, then I hear the bathroom door close.
She so sweet and pretty. How did I not notice her before? How come she has no friends? What kind of parents could hurt their own daughter like that? It's sad really.
I hear a knock on the door, pulling me out of my thoughts. I go to the door and see Eva standing there again.
"Sorry to bother you, again. But I was wondering where to put my dirty clothes at?" She looks at me apologetically.
"It's really no problem Eva. There a basket in the laundry room."
"Thanks!" She goes to leave but spins around quickly. She kissed me on the cheek and rushes downstairs. Woah.
----------
I wake up at 5 and everyone seemed to still be asleep. I went downstairs to play my Xbox.
I walk into the kitchen to get a drink at 5:10 and see Eva sitting at the table, reading.
"Good morning Eva!" She looks up from the book and flashes me a big smile.
"Good morning Ace!" Oh God, I even love the way she says my name. I clear my throat and shake my head.
"When did you wake up?"
"At 5:02." I look at her and smile.
"Want to come play the Xbox with me?" Her face lights up and I can't help but smirk at her. She's adorable.
"I would love to! What are we playing?"
"Whatever you want to play." She smiles at me again and I smile back. I haven't smiled this much in a long time.
What is this girl doing to me?
