I stand there and I can't help but cry.

Nate is leaned over his mother's unmoving body, her chest rising and falling at a very slow pace. Blood is all around her head and all over Nate's hands.

"Hello, yes, we need an ambulance please." I hear Eva's shaking voice, and I immediately look up to see her on the phone.

She's pale, and looks scared and upset all in one. I go over to her and pull her to me. She lets out a sigh of relief. I'm glad I'm able to calm her down.

"The ambulance is coming." She says burying her face into my chest after hanging up.

I still hear Nate's cries and Eva pulls away from me. She goes over to Nate. And puts a comforting arm around his shoulders. I go over and do the same. Eva looks over and smiles sadly at me. I don't want to see her upset or hurt, but I know she's just worried about Nate and his mom.

But I can't help but feel jealous. That's sad. I'm jelous of my best friend.

The ambulance comes and Nate's mom is put onto a stretcher and pulled to the hospital. Eva and I get into my car and go to the hospital as well.

In the car, there's silence, no one says anything.

"Is she going to be okay?" I grip the steering wheel harder, my knuckles turning white.

"I don't know."

"It's okay Ace, I'm here for you and Nate." And Nate. That's all I can think about from that sentence. Why? I don't know.

"Thanks." I say it through clenched teeth and Eva puts her hand on my shoulder.

I start to relax a little, but not much.

I know she's just trying to be comforting towards Nate, but I want her to myself. I know that sounds really selfish, but she's mine.

We arrive at the hospital and when we get out, I intertwine my fingers with Eva's. She turns bright red and I smirk.

We go inside and see Nate in the waiting room. He's pale and has his head in his hands. He's shaking and I can tell it's because he's crying. We walk over to him and Eva puts her arm around him. I go stiff.

"It's going to be okay Nate." Nate continues to cry and she hugs him.

That. Breaks. Me.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" I lean over and whisper in her ear.

"Sure." She whispers back at me and I pull her into an elevator. We're on the first floor, and there's 5 floors. I press the number 5 so I have some time to talk to her.

"Ace what are we–" I interrupt her by smashing my lips onto hers.

At first she's surprised, but she's soon kissing me back. And I smile into the kiss. She wraps her arms around my neck and I wrap my right hand around her waist. I push her against the wall and put my left hand on the wall beside her head. After 2 floors of kissing, we're now on floor 3, I pull back.

"You're mine." It comes out as a barking command.

"I'm yours." She whispers this and I smirk.

"Dang right you are." I kiss her forehead and she gives me a faint smile.

"Where's this coming from?" There's silence.

"Nate." Realization flashes in her eyes.

"I can see why you'd get jealous, I'd probably get jealous too." I can't believe what I just heard.

"Thanks for understanding. I'm so glad I have you. I have no idea what I did to deserve you." She looks at me and smiles.

"You're welcome. Same here." I smile back and we kiss again. The elevator dings, reaching the fifth floor.

I reach over to the panel and press the 1 button, taking us back down to Nate.

The whole way down, Eva has her head on my chest and I'm holding her to me.

"Hey Nate, are you doing ok?"

"Not really. The doctor still hasn't come out yet!" He has a mix of emotions in his voice, fear, anger, sadness.

"It's going to be okay Nate."

"And what if it isn't?!" He whisper yells back, trying not to get the attention of the whole hospital.

"Me and you both know your mom is strong."

"I know that Ace, but what if she doesn't make it, huh?!" He's whisper yelling again and I snap.

"You know what Nate you and Lidia mean so much to me, you're like my second family. I want to be here for her, but if you're going to continue being a douchebag, then I'm leaving."

"Leave then." That's it.

I get up and pull Eva up with me, she comes without hesitation.

"Call me when you get any information on if she's okay. And don't dare try to apologise like you always do. I just want to know if Lidia is doing okay." With that, me and Eva leave.

We walk to the car and I open the door for Eva. She smiles and says thank you. I say you're welcome and get into the driver's seat. I put both of my hands on the steering wheel and lay my forehead against it. My grip on the steering wheel is so tight that my knuckles turn white again.

"Are you okay Ace?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." I look over at her, she has a knowing look on her face.

"No you're not, let me drive please. I don't want you crashing." I reluctantly nod, and we get out to switch seats.

We drive in silence for the first 2 minutes and I put my hand on her thigh, trying to reassure her that I'm fine. She looks over at me and she visibly relaxes.

"I'm okay Eva."

"Yeah, I know. I want to make sure you're ok though." I smile at her.

She's so caring, what did I EVER do to deserve her. I'm so glad that I saved her from her parents, I wouldn't be able to see her hurting.
