twenty-two - aftermath

Layla sat on the couch, facing the wall, the urge to scream completely overwhelming her. Being stuck within the same room as JJ, not by choice, was enough to set her over the edge completely.

JJ had gotten into the chocolate chip cookies, Layla's favorite. She had no desire to eat, however.

All she had was the desire to yell at JJ; she assumed it would've subsided by now, but for some reason she still had the urge to punch him in the face. While she didn't want to lose JJ's friendship overall, she just couldn't bring herself to forgive him completely and totally.

He had hurt her and barely noticed.

Besides, she was still pissed over the fact that he had stolen a gun and was flashing it to everyone so recklessly. He just saw all of her emotions as an extreme overreaction.

Kiara, on the otherhand, was not only pissed at JJ; he was mad at John B as well. Her anger at John B was founded in his enabling of JJ's reckless behavior. And even though she knew it was uncalled for, she had a bit of frustration at Layla; she shouldn't have trust him romatically first of all. Furthermore, she sort of wished things would go back to normal and the only thing preventing that were Layla's emotions (which Kie knew she was entitled to).

When John B heard JJ's genius plan for getting rid of all the tension, he couldn't be happier; he felt guilt for what had transpired, especially because he allowed it. He was unsure why Layla wasn't mad at him; he put JJ's opportunity to get laid above Layla's emotions. If their positions were switched, he would've been pissed. Besides, all he wanted was for the group of friends to go back to normal.

Pope felt similarly, his main concern laying in reuniting the group. He understood Layla being upset and agreed with her completely. The tension between the pair, however, was making things uncomfortable.

"You really are just gonna sit there and ignore me?" JJ questioned. It had been about an hour since he spoke to her last, the boy hoping that cracking open her favorite cookies would draw her out of silence.

She simply glanced at him in frustration, the situation making her angrier. She just wanted to go sleep in her own bed, far away from JJ.

"I swear to god, Layla," JJ muttered, anger filling his tone as he sat on the ground. His sudden harshness pulled her attention up. "You need to listen to me. Just listen for one minute. I swear that I will never knowingly hurt you again. I'm so sorry for what I did. And I know I can't expect you to take me back and just forget what happened. But all I'm asking for is another chance. Not even as your boyfriend. Just as your friend, Layla. You're my bestfriend. And I can't lose you."

Layla took a sharp inhale at the conclusion of his monologue. His apology seemed genuine.

While she wasn't going to rush to spill all of the details of her life to him, she planned on trying to be friends again. The friendship they had was something too close to throw away.

He was on extremely thin ice, but she could try to allow him back into her life. At least he was trying.

The eight a.m. sun shinned brightly through the sheer curtains as Layla woke up. Her head was on the arm of the couch, her legs sprawled out on the sofa. By her knees, JJ's head rested with his legs hanging off. The sound of the familar S.U.V. pulling up was heard against the quiet birds, the dirt crunching loudly.

Layla glanced down at the boy, moving slowly into an upright position in an attempt to not wake him. While she was successful, it was ruined by the cabin door swinging open.

Kie stood in the doorway, glancing between Layla who sat in yesterday's clothes with her back against the sofa, and JJ, shirtless, who had just shot upright. "Are you two good?"

JJ glanced over at Layla, a small smile on his face. "Uh, yeah, we're good," he confirmed.

Layla looked at Kie, her glance downcast. She gave a quick smile and pushed past Kiara out of the cabin.
