twenty-three - jealousy

Despite the sort of reunion that had occurred, Layla was still less than eager to run back into JJ's loving arms.

Kiara was fully aware of this.

In order to provide some semblance of an escape from the chaos that had inhibited their lives the last few days, Kie scored the duo an invite to a party occurring at the large home of a Kook Kie had deemed as acceptable; Margot Robinson.

Margot was recently eighteen years old, and the party was for her birthday. She was a likable girl, her brown hair landing just past her shoulders. Her brown eyes were large, her hips a bit wider set. She was absolutely stunning, her body filled out in all the right places.

Layla didn't know her well, but both were civil with most and were well acquainted. While everyone would be at the party, it was "invite only" in an attempt to secure some exclusivity. Despite this, Margot was too kind in her nature to turn anyone away and probably had enough alcohol to supply the entire island.

"Just come," Kie pleaded as she sat on Layla's bed, Layla in her closet pulling her t-shirt off of her body. She plucked a tank top from the hanger, pulling it over her head instead. The t-shirt was dropped to the floor and replaced by the tie-dye top.

Layla scoffed. "Will JJ be there?" she questioned. There was still animosity to the boy, even if he was too oblivious to see it.

Kie sighed heavily, dropping her phone to her side and pulling her glance upwards. "Probably, but not with us."

Layla turned, her hands on her hips. She could get black-out drunk. "Fine, but I won't be ready for like an hour."

Kie nodded, noting that it was 8:30. "Deal."

JJ was sober for what was probably the first time in his life. His sobriety allowed him to sit in the corner with a red solo cup in hand watching Layla rest her hand on the shoulder of some asshole and hunch over with laughter.

A scowl was on his face which was the complete opposite of the attitude Layla was displaying. She was clearly hitting on the tall boy with brown hair. He had seen him around before and vaguely recognized him as Tyler Kulka. The boy smiled as Layla took a sip of her vodka that was mixed with lemonade, as opposed to the other way around.

The guy was attractive; just because JJ was straight didn't mean he was blind. And Layla was getting along with him too well. She was drunk. She wasn't in the right state of mind to be hitting on this random guy. Right?

The last straw was when his hand found her lower back, and then he slapped her ass. In response, Layla's jaw dropped and then laughter filled her chest.

JJ stood from his seat vigorously, approaching the two horny lovebirds. He reached Layla, pulling her arm harshly.

She turned to him, her arm automatically retracting. "What?" she questioned, annoyance in her tone.

He paused for a second, unsure of what to say. "What are you doing? I'm taking you home." His words were sharp, leaving little room for negotiation. Before she had a chance to get a word in, JJ pulled the solo cup from her hand and shoved it into the arms of the boy she was getting along with too well. JJ then pulled her from the boy.

He pushed through the door of the party, the front door slamming behind them. Silence enveloped them as the darkness greeted them on the grass in front of the home of Margot.

"What the fuck, JJ?" Layla yelled, pulling herself from him. She had maintained a distance of about three feet. She wore mom jeans and a small, cropped white tank top. Her arms fell across her chest.

"I'm not going to sit here and watch you sleep with some dick while you're completely wasted. I'm not. I care about you."

A sarcastic laugh fell from her lips. "Are you serious? You can sleep with whoever the fuck you want whenever you want but I can't talk to some guy at a party?"

"You aren't in the right state of mine. You can't just do that!" he fired.

She didn't have the energy to point out his hypocrisy. In fact, she didn't have the energy to continue the conversation. Besides, pulling her away from the party had killed her mood.

She sighed. "Fine, JJ. Whatever." She shook her head, her arms tightening across her chest. "Are you taking me home or not?"

He glanced at her, processing her sudden agreement. "Uh, yeah." He outstretched his hand for her keys.

She shook her head. "You have to go find Kie and see if she's coming with us or leaving with John B. I can't just leave her here."

He nodded, turning to her and then heading back towards the loud party.
