"See that star over there?" 15-year-old Charlene Dawson asked pointing at the sky at one particular shiny star while looking down at her three year old baby sister.
"Yesh sissy" The young girl replied softly in case anyone heard and came rampaging up the stairs.
"Whenever you feel lonely and miss me, Fiona, Valentina or Aida just look up at the sky find this star and smile at it" Charlene said in the same soft voice as her youngest sister stared up at her with doe eyes filled with awe and adoration. She looked every bit innocent and Charlene wanted to go on a killing spree and kill all those who looked at her with nothing but ill thoughts.
"I-I don't understand sissy" Gabriella stared up at her third oldest sister with concentration and pouted making the older sister inwardly coo at her cuteness feeling another stab at her heart when she remembered what the child's fate would be and what dangers her future would hold. If only, if only she could escape.
"I'll not alway be here Gabs so I want you to promise me that you'll not cry when I'm gone. You'll just look up at that very star and smile at it because that is where I would be going" She paused tearing her gaze away from her sister whose eyes were slowly filling with tears and to the bright star up far away in the dark sky twinkling and smiling down at them.
"Just know that sissy, feefee, Tina and Addy will not ever leave you. No we would always be with you. But not as humans. No we would be your own guardian angels looking down for you from up there" She pointed at the star again while looking down at the girl who was soaking in each and every word of hers with pure concentration.
"Do you know what a guardian angel is Gabby?" Charlene asked raising an eyebrow at her and she nodded her head furiously making the former chuckle lightly.
"Right so we'll be your guardian angels. How cool is that? Huh?" She picked up her sister from beside her and put her on her lap so she was directly opposite her.
"Very cool" Gabriella nodded. She would agree to anything her older sisters said especially Charlene. She adored them and they her. Suddenly Charlene gasped as something up in the sky caught her eye and she pointed it to her sister excitedly.
"Look a shooting star. Quick make a wish".
Charlene closed her eyes and focused with all fibers in her body as she tightly held on to her baby sister.
Please please please don't let her grow up here like me and the others. Please let her go, please please please let her have the future filled with happiness that I crave for. Let her grow up fresh and happy. Let her leave this God forsaken place and give her, her own guardian angels which aren't dead. Give her siblings and maybe an older brother who would always look out for her. Let her leave this place and then be adopted into a beautiful family. One where everyone loves each other and will welcome her with open arms. One where they will recognize her abilities and accept her for who she is. Please please please let my baby sister leave this place safe and sound and grow up to be the beautiful lady that she is destined to be and not a lowlife who questions her self worth at the hand of her merciless parents.
The girl in her lap paused for a second before she closed her eyes as well and thought as hard as the 3-year-old could.
Pwese pwese pwese lemme grow up with sissy, feefee, Tina and Addy. I wuve them sho shooo much and I don't vant them to goo. And can I hawe a unicorn for my birday...
"Look sissy it's gone" Gabriella gasped as the shooting star disappeared over the horizon and Charlene sighed opening her eyes.
"Yes now Gabs look at me".
"Yesh?".
"See this star I'm talking about? This star has the name Skat and Skat means 'a wish' and it's also the delta aquarid meteor shower and let's just say that the meteor is a shower of wishing stars. Now whenever you feel down just look up and find this star and wish for anything you want and it'll be granted". She said and the young girls eyebrows scrunched up in the utmost confusion. What was her sister even talking about?.
"You're weid" She giggled instead and an amused grin broke over Charlene's face.
"Oh so I'm weird ah? What are you then huh?" She lightly tickled giggled her sides making her giggles fill the room and the door suddenly opened startling the two but it was only their other sisters.
Aida 12, Fiona 16 and Valentina 17.
"Gabby? You still up? It's midnight past your bed time" Valentina said as Gabriella got off Charlene's lap and ran to Fiona who promptly picked her up hugging her small body close to her own frail and thin short frame.
Fiona gently took her to the small bed in their shared room and tucked her in feeling sad knowing that this might be the last day she might see her baby sister who she loved more than anything in the dark world filled with nothing but bad things for her and her sisters.
All of them kissed her goodnight and Charlene whispered her last words to her sister.
"I love you and remember look up at the sky, find the star, smile and always make a wish".
And with that they walked out gently closing the door.
"Her backpack?" Fiona asked looking at Aida the youngest of the four and the second innocent in the household.
"Under her bed with everything and she knows that she must not let them get it and whenever she leaves she must take it with her".
"She's a smart kid. She'll live through this" Valentina sighed before she hugged her sisters one more time and the sisters walked downstairs to their impending doom.
