Seventeen Years Later

Yang laid in her bed with the covers fully covering her body. Her face and pillow were stained with tears. She had a feeling her parents wearn't her actual parents for some time now, but she never wanted to believe it. Her eyes looked like Summer's, and her hair could've been from either her or Tai, but her face wasn't from either of them. If anything, she looked more like her Uncle Qrow. Is he my father? My eyes look just like his when I use my semblance. Summer and Tai assured her he wasn't her father, but she wasn't buying it. There was also her last name. She had been called Yang (L/N) her entire life. A knock came to her door. Someone tried to talk to her, but she ignored them. She heard her door slowly open and the sound of their footsteps. She stayed under the bedsheets.

"Yang?" She felt Summer's hand rest on her shoulder through the sheets. "Do you want to talk, sweetie?"

"Is Qrow my father?" Yang asks, poking her head out from under the covers.

Summer releases a deep sigh. "No. I promise he's not."

Yang sits up. "Then who is?" She asks somewhat aggressively, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"Come here." She pats the spot next to her. Reluctantly, Yang moves herself to sit by Summer. "I know you must trust nothing I'll say, but you'll have to take my word that I won't lie to you." Summer reaches into her pocket and pulls out a photo of a young couple. They were both hugging each other from the side while facing the camera.

Yang took the photo and held it close to her face, mesmerizing every detail of their faces.

"That's (Y/N), your father." She points to the man. "And my brother."

"So, you're really my aunt?"

Summer nods.

"And that's my mother?"

"Yes. Her name's Raven, your Uncle Qrow's twin sister." Summer looks away. "I always thought they were cute together." She looked like she was about to cry. "Your mother was always stubborn. She wanted nothing to do with anyone, even her own team. Your father brought out the best in her."

"Where are they?" Yang asks.

Summer wipes her eyes. "Your father past away seventeen years ago. I don't know where your mother is."

Stop calling them that. Yang wanted to tell her but bit her tongue. "Is that why my last name is (L/N)."

Summer nods.

"Why didn't you change it?" Yang asks, almost sounding angry.

"I thought about it before, but every time I looked at you, I could see my brother. I couldn't bring myself to change it."

"I want to change it."

"Yang-"

"I don't care if you only see your brother in me." Tears were streaming down her face. "I'm not him, and he's not my father!"

Summer knew there wasn't much she could do. She hugged Yang before getting up to leave the room.

A few hours past and Yang hasn't moved from her bed. Tai came into her room to check on her and talk if she wanted to. She didn't. She ran out of tears to cry about an hour ago, and she was as still as a rock.

"Hey, Yang?" Ruby whispered through the cracked door. "Are you awake."

Yang rolled herself over to Ruby. "Yeah." Her voice was hoarse, and sounded like she hasn't slept in days.
