Wasteland

The land was black.
Everything was burned down.
It looked like someone smashed a lego city, then covered it in charcoal dust.
The store that I tried to rob was now a dirty room without a door.
I looked at Luna.
She seemed like it was nothing.
I asked her what was wrong.
She said that her hometown was attacked and destroyed.
I asked her why.
She continued by saying that they were rebels from Vermont.
(Levi is talking to the reader.)
You see, this is like a parallel universe.
Your universe is different from ours.
Like in your world there could be a meteorite while we have a virus.
But your universe and my are pretty similar.
We are still humans.
The problem is that there was an attack that changed our universe from yours.
This war was going on for so long in the east coast, that I forgot all about it.
With all the drama on my side, I was almost unaware of it.
Since Luna brought it up, all I could do was agree and perish.
(Back to the story.)
I needed Luna to give me a refresh of the whole situation.
Luna started by saying that it started in Montpelier.
The governor was starting to change.
He started making rules that complimented himself.
People of Montpelier got enraged by his actions.
They started to attack in 2028.
After the governor's assassination, the rebels continued to attack other states.
Their reason.
This new type of medicine.
Someone started a trend for eating this type of medicine twice a day.
This made the people insane.
So the governor's assassination was just the people going insane.
So anyway, they went to her place and burnt it down.
She said it was after her parents death, after she joined the gang.
She said that her hometown was Haverhill, New Hampshire.
She continued.
After that, they started to attack airports.
Of course no deaths occurred because they didn't want to go to jail (But burning a town down is not?).
They just forced the staff to give all 300 people free tickets for Nevada.
They flew there in 5 separate planes.
After that, the middle states got involved.
One of planes crashed, killing 10 staff members and 130 people.
None survived, but there was another problem.
The plane crashed in Pierre, South Dakota which killed around 500 people who lived in 500 mile radius near Pierre.
That started the first war, the Battle of Pierre.
I interrupted her because I asked how she knew this.
She told me that their gang was traveling around New Hampshire and caught hold of the news.
She heard it and know she knows the whole story.
Plus it was played on live television.
Back to the story.
Out of the four remaining planes, 2 decided to land down and attack the citizens who survived.
Meanwhile, the farmers who live in rural areas outside of Pierre were sharpening their rakes and axes.
They were ready for war.
The war starts by a group of male farmers attacking one of the planes.
Many died due to the dangerous engine that was so hot it could rip flesh in seconds.
The small group of farmers were able to blow up the plane.
That event killed around 50 people all together.
Then the true war happened.
After a year of fighting, 2028-2029, the rebels won despite them being insane.
They decided to take over South Dakota, being the first state to be truly gone forever in our universe.
They attacked the airport and took 3 planes to Nevada again.
They reached Las Vegas, Nevada and convinced thousands of soldiers and even the governor to win themselves the U.S.
The police and people were mad.
They launched and attack on the government.
It was 1,000 Nevada soldiers, the governor, and about 100 rebels vs 100 cops and around 100,000 civilians.
The war lasted 3 days until all civilians (not including moms or children) were killed.
Around 80,000 people died.
There were a few soldiers, three rebels, the governor , and no male civilians (minus the boys under the age of 18).
The soldiers launched an attack on California.
This time they had fighter jets, planes, tanks, and much more deadly weapons.
They attacked PBSB because the governor's friend (the guy who was wrongly imprisoned) had died.
I interrupted her again because I knew that the guy from Nevada had died in 2027.
She replied that they had already planned an attack on California, but left it for 3 years.
Now here we are.
In the black barren land that was once called Pelican Bay State City.
We explored deeper into the ruins and we found a little stake.
It said Welcome to Sagebrust City, Home to thousands of young people who roam its grounds.
We knew it was set up by the Nevada government because Sagebrust was a nickname for Nevada.
We explored deeper, but there was nothing left.
After that, I had thoughts about Ace.
Did he survive or did he die?
I was thinking about him.
For a split moment, I missed him.
Yes, he was one of the worst people ever.
But he kept me company.
Besides Luna, he was the only one who kept making sure I was there.
Of course, it was for money, but now that I think about, Ace wasn't so bad after all.
He had his many flaws, but deep down I realized that he had a good side.
I realized that the things I heard were just rumors.
Not everything you hear is true.
I looked at Luna and told her about Ace and how he was a horrible person, but a good one as well.
Luna looked at me with a weirded out look.
She said that he was always bad.
She continued by saying that he was a terrible person and should just die in a hole.
She also said that his wife should be sorry for marrying him.
I asked Luna how she knew a lot about him when she didn't hear the rumors and spent only a few weeks with him.
She was hesitant and quickly changed the topic.
That was weird, but I ignored it.
After all his actions did signal her that he wasn't so great of a person.
But how did she know that he was married.
After all, I didn't see any ring on his finger.
After Luna's long message of zodiac signs and elements, we continued our way through the land.
We found our way to to Crescent City, California.
What we saw literally made our jaws drop to the lowest it could be.
Crescent City was not like Pelican Bay State City.
