Bestfriends With My Doppelganger

Chapter 15

   We all decided that we would get some burgers or something like that so we went to a cafe on campus that offered ordinary fast food options.

    "Hey Kelly, why do you give Jake such a hard time?" I whisper to her as we wait in line to place our order.

   "What do you mean?" she asks me with a raised eyebrow. I look over to where Jake was seated along with the other guys at a large booth in the corner of he cafe. Kelly and I were the ones who offered to join the line and make the order.

    He was gazing out the window, seemingly zoned out from the conversation our other friends were having.

   "He seems to really like you" I tell her. "I see that but I just can't trust my self to be open to a person like him" she says to me and we return our attention forward, to the counter where four people stood before us.

    "What do you mean a person like him?" I ask her, wanting to hear what her reasoning was behind her statement. "Look at him Illiana. He's a heartbreaker. His smooth nonchalant behavior just makes me scared to truly trust him. He could have anybody he wanted so why would he choose to try and talk to me? I've been there before and I got hurt, I just can't chance it again" Kelly explains to me and I frown at her explanation.

    "Oh, I can't say I understand you because I've never had a boyfriend before but I can see that he really likes you by the way he looks at you and talks about you" I tell her.

   "Seriously! You've never had a boyfriend" she says and I shush her. "Say it louder, the people in the back didn't hear you" I said sarcastically and she rolled her eyes. "By the way we aren't talking about me. We're talking about you giving Jake a chance" I tell her.

   We move up in line and then stand in place again, waiting for the people before us to be done.

    "I'll give Jake a chance if you give Alistare a chance. Now he's really a nice guy" she says to me and I turn to look at Alistare, who was talking very animatedly to Chad and Nerissa.

    "I do like him but how are you so sure that Alistare isn't the one who may break my heart? I mean you can't judge a book by the cover, that isn't fair Kelly" I tell her.

   "Which is why we will both give it a chance. If it goes bad we will have each other to comfort the other. I doubt he will break your heart though" she says and we move up in line once again, now only waiting on one girl to be done with her ordering.

    "Ok deal, but I'm not going to be the one making any advances. If he asks me out or shows any interest then I will give it a shot. Okay?" I say to Kelly, regarding Alistare. She nods her head and says 'Deal' before we both step up to he cashier and Kelly proceeds to place the order.

   We get our receipt and are told to wait for our number to be called.

   We step to the side and lean against the counter, looking over at our table of friends. Jake was now into the conversation and was smiling and talking with Alistare, Chad and Nerissa.

    Marisol was talking with Clarice and they too were smiling and seeming to enjoy themselves.

   Our order number was called and we got three bags filled with food. I took one of the bags along with 7 small trays for us to eat on while  Kelly carried the other two over to the table.

    "Finally you guys are back. I was starving" Jake said and I saw Kelly roll her eyes. "Kelly" I spoke in a reprimanding tone.

   "Oh yeah I totally forgot. Hey Alistare, Illiana wants to go out with you" she says and my jaw drops open and my eyes widen.

   "Kelly!" I exclaim and she laughs and points at my face.

   "I knew it! I totally knew it" Marisol said and I glared at her which only made her laugh harder.

   "Way to go man" Jake says and Pat's Alistare on his shoulder while smiling.

   "Wow, I'm flattered. I would love to go out with you Illiana" Alistare said while smiling at me and I face palmed before turning to Kelly. "Why would you do that?!" I spoke through clenched teeth to her.

   "You needed a little push princess. No harm done" she smiles and claps her hand once. "Am I missing something here?" Alistare asks. "No, nothing at all. Come on guys let's eat" Kelly says and dismisses my little moment of embarrassment.

   "We all sit down together and have our lunches. I try to avoid Alistare's gaze by not looking in his direction. I mostly looked down at my meal or at the girls while we talked. I am so embarrassed.

  I look up and tried to listen to Kelly talking to Nerissa about Riley, the dance society's captain, but all that ran through my mind was how she just blurted that out in front of everyone.

    Don't you worry Kelly, I'm so gonna get you back for this, I smile mischievously.
