A Twist of Fate

Chapter 9

Dick was silent. He wasn't talking to anyone. So in other words, he was sulking. If he were in an anime, mushrooms would be growing out of his head. Slade was amused by it. He already knew that Dick wouldn't like his plan to get him to a safer place, out of Savage's reach and them.

"You ready?" Slade asked softly.

"As I'll ever be." Dick fidgeted watching as Vertigo and Black Atom went to intercept the team's ship, "Dad I'm scared."

Slade nodded laying a hand on Dick's shoulder, "So am I. Just remember that I will always be here for you even if it doesn't look like it. You have Joey's number if you really need to talk to someone and your sister Rose will help with anything you want."

"I know."

Slade nodded again, raising his helmet and putting it on, "Let's get this over with."

Watoan was coming back with Vertigo, Black Adom, and a caged full of teen heroes. Dick counted the same with Slade. Two were missing. Suddenly gun fire could be heard below them. Slade and Dick watched as the Martian and Kid Flash fended off Poison Ivy and Ultra Humanite. Slade reached for his blade on his back. Dick reached for his daggers in his boots.

Suddenly over head the teens fell out of the sky. Dick noticed the shifting shape of a moving object in the sky. So their ship could camo itself. He'd have to look into that later. The fight below them was a fair match. Dick counted the team again noting two were missing again.

"Where's the Martian and Flash Boy?" Vertigo growled.

Dick and Slade heard beeping and it was getting more and more. They glanced over to the plant from our spot and saw it littered in red dots. Slade grabbed Dick's arm and through him from their perch following soon after. They landed in the swamp below with the team and the Injustice League just as the plant blew up behind them. The teens gave wide eyed surprise while the villains sighed in relief.

"My Baby." Ivy yelled and everyone ignored.

"Renegade. Take out the speedster and Martian." Slade growled.

Dick nodded, breaking off and heading to the Gotham Villains that had engaged. Joker took another swipe at the yellow clad speedster. The hero didn't see the young mercenary coming. The punch knocked him back into a tree. The vines that came next wrapped around him, squeezing him until Dick heard a crack and the speedster yelled.

"Kid Flash!" Yelled a voice.

Dick knew it was close but there was only Joker next to him. Suddenly the vines were torn apart by an invisible force, dropping the speedster. Kid Flash was holding his arm close to his body with a wince.

"I should be of assistance." Vertigo announced.

Dick didn't see anything at first but then the Martian appeared with a scream, holding her head. Within a heartbeat Kid Flash ran by knocking Vertigo out in a punch, ripping his cape in the process. He was gone just as fast as he came. Dick moved away from the Villains, nearing Slade and his next opponent. Aqualad was keeping pace with Slade for now but sweat dripped off his nose and fell in his eyes. With one fatal kick, it knocked Aqualad back into the water.

"Enough!" Wotan yelled. With a spell he pinned all of the teen heroes to the swampy ground.

Dick looked to Slade with a raised brow. The league would be here soon. And they needed to be ready.

"Wotan you are mine!"

Both Slade and Dick looked to the booming voice and uncertainty crept up their spins. The helmet of Fate. The battle changed drastically. The Injustice League had been cornered by the young heroes. Fate intervened with Dick and Slade, fighting them. Dick knew some magic from his parents, since it was his culture to have legends, myths, and Magic. Just a few protection spells but without them he would have been knocked out by now.
