I broke the shell of my temporary home,

The shell of my egg, that had held me in so long.

I glanced at the world around me,

And oh my! It was such a beautiful sight to see!

How lucky I am, I thought within me

To be born under the clear blue sky towering above me.

But soon I realised that I was wrong

To survive, I really needed to be strong

'You're not like us, so just get lost

Go find your own place, this is not our fault'

It was then that I wished to somehow turn back time

And go back to living inside that egg, so warm and quiet.

But when I looked up at the clear blue sky

I saw a sight which made me blink my eyes twice

A group of mysterious white creatures flew up in the sky

Their heads held high, their wings spread wide

If only I was able to fly so high,

I would gladly fly away without a sigh.

I tried with all my might

To stretch my tiny wings, but they wouldn't fly

I looked up once again, but this time

There weren't those birds, it was just the blue sky.

Was it all a dream? Or was it a sign?

But right now, I knew I had to fight to stay alive.

The winter passed, the spring arrived

The ice coated lake had melted over time

I had grown, my wings looked ready for flight

But what I saw gave me a fright

Cause I was no longer the ugly duckling everyone despised

I had transformed into one of those beautiful creatures that could fly

It was then that I realised, what they said was right

I was not one of their kind, there were greater things in store for me so I

Stretched my wings and decided to give it another try

My wings felt light, I soared to the sky

To be greeted by those creatures of whom I'd dreamt all night

Yes, I'd finally found my home and I could fly

So this is the lesson I learnt over time

You may be rejected and despised in life

But value yourself and give it some time

A rainbow always appears after a cloudy sky

But always do keep this in mind

You are beautiful, and you were made to fly
