Black soil, black sky,
Black birds making their nests up high,
White stars, that sparkle bright,
My world consists of black and white.

Jupiter, that's where I live.
I live here by my own free will.
Everything's black here, day or night,
Except for the stars that come out at night.

Every morn, my head held high,
I survey my world, my wings spread wide.
I fly across mountains and every valley.
I take my time and do not hurry.

And then at eve, when I sat by the river,
I realized that nothing's gonna change here, ever.
No one's heard of a black unicorn, but I am one.
No one's heard of a black planet, but I lived in one.

I dreamed at night of how it would be,
If my world weren't so grey, how else would it be?
Would there be other colors? Would I look more bright?
Would the stars shine with rainbow lights?

That was what I thought of, until I woke up today
And saw her, standing so far away.
She looked at me, her eyes fluttering wide
And exclaimed, 'A PURPLE unicorn! Oh my!'

I turned around, but there was no one behind.
She was surely talking to me, alright.
I pointed to myself, 'I'm not purple, I'm black.
And what is purple, may I ask?'

'Purple's a color', she said
And you're right next to a mushroom that is RED'.
I nearly jumped up in fright.
Her words seemed too strange in my mind.

So how many colors are there?
And is there something wrong with me, mare?
'There are so many colors', she said. 'I cannot tell.
But you need to see with your heart to see them well'.

Your heart doesn't have eyes, I could hear my brain protest.
But she still stood there, was this a test?
She was as black as everything around
But something special in her, I found.

White eyes that reminded me of the stars in the sky,
Black shiny hair that seemed to get stuck in my mind,
Her greyish wings that looked ready for flight,
But above all, her words of wisdom and her never fading smile.

My legs seemed to have a mind of their own
Cause they galloped towards her, without being told.
I felt my cheek brush across her own.
What was wrong with me? Was I losing control?

But when I saw her peacefully closed eyes,
I knew everything was going to be alright.
Looking around, I saw my world in a new light
And that was the end of my colorblind life.
